I've wintersown all my hibiscus seeds and they have done well. Mine haven't reached blooming size yet. I think this (2nd)year I will get to see blooms. But I haven't tried wintersowing Bluebird so can't say for sure. Can you dig up a seedling? I transplanted some tiny ROS seedlings and while they sulked at first they did settle in and now seem quite happy. Shannon/Dirtrx

Shannon, it is too late for me to over winter. I was surprised those seeds were still in the pods. Can't I put them outside in pots with seedling soil or scratch in the ground when it is warm?

well, judging from the amount of blipping seedlings i have to weed each and every year from the feet of mine, i'd say that should work. i don't know if bluebird is a hybrid that will reseed true, though. i just have the old fashioned single pink and white ones. you could also try cuttings, since most hibiscus family root easily.

It may be too late to wintersow your seeds. Is it a tropical hibiscus? I don't wintersow my tender hibiscus until now. I agree with Tamelask. ROS reseed everywhere so I think you would be safe planting them out in a pot or in the soil. Check on the wintersowing forum to see if the seeds need to be nicked. I don't know if they need the cold period to soften the seed coat or not. I have seen request for Bluebird seeds but I don't know if they will come true. If you have enough to experiment with different methods I would, especially if you could get more seeds from your MIL. Shannon
