I am in the same boat. I live in st louis and the weather can get extreme in either direction. Winters can be very cold and summers very hot. I have done research on this topic before and I have heard of some Agave and echinopsis that can survive the fridged temps here. Of course to increase the survival rate a bed with a drainage basin is needed. Larger, more mature plants have a greater chance of surviving but I would still recommend covering them in a clear plastic to try to trap in some warmth and protect from rain and frost. Another thing to consider, may be a lot of work, making holes in a bed large enough to set them in durring the spring summer and fall.( you could slip a plastic bucket in to the hole like the pots you can get roses, shrubs in.) Just up to where the lip on a terracota pot would be. They will be able to stay out longer this way too because the pot and the roots inside will stay cooler durring the summer and warmer durring autumn. There is another thread posted not too long ago titled "cold hardy" or "cold hardy cactus" something along those lines. A poster put up the name of a book that has helped him raise cactus in Canada. Im in zone 9 southern california (in a valley of hell named Perris) so alot of things can stay out during winter :D But there is, of coarse, those that need cold protection such as Kalanchoe, pachypodium, and Asclepiads. As of now, we are still having 90�s during the day, and around 60�-70� at night. Last year was really the first year i got into succulents, and i started to bring thing into my green house in mid october, and that is finally when temps start to get 40�-50� at night here. The average winter temps here are around 40� at night, but sometimes it can dip to 26�. We even had snow in 2007, and that is when i almost lost one of my beloved aloes D: Id say, bring them inside the green house is good for you right now, just to be on the safe side, as the temps are reaching 50 and lower. I really wish i could start having a cool down here...

Hmmm... unfortunately ABQ doesn't have a lot of good places to buy cacti. Rowland's used to have a somewhat decent selection, but it's gone now. Have you checked Osuna Nursery? They have a lot of indoor cacti, although the last time I was there some of the plants looked kind of bad, but then again I'm super picky. If you get a chance, head down to Truth or Consequences. There's a nursery called Buffalo Bill's Exotic Cactus Ranch. It is without a doubt the BEST cactus nursery in the state. T or C is kind of funky too, with lots of hot spring bath housese. There's some interesting Chihuahuan Desert scenery around the town too. cd
