newbie has dumb questions

It's getting colder here in Northern Ohio and I want to

do everything right for my plants but I really don't

think I fully understand the overwintering thing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong....

1. Spray with insecticidal soap now......right?

2. One week before freezing frost, (probably Oct)

cut the plant down to about 1' tall.....right?

3. Dig the plant out of the ground saving as much of

the root ball as I can....right?

4. Plant it in a slightly larger container than the

root ball using peat moss to fill in the gaps..right?

5. Carry it down to the basement and leave it there

till spring.....right?

I don't know what kind they are. One is yellow and

has bloomed very well.

The other one is supposed to be pink. Has beautiful

foliage but not blooms this yr.

They are both about 4' tall.

Do I water it any time during the winter months?

Will a 5 gal bucket work as a container to plant it in?

I'm not a very visual person and reading instructions has

always been a problem for me....Has anyone taken pictures

of this wintering-over project that they can share for us

newbies?

Thanks so much in advance

Sassy
