Soil for my carnivorous plants

I have a Sarracenia purpurea, a Drosera capensis, and a Pinguicula (not sure exactly what kind). What would be a good soil mix for them?

depends on what "bottled water" is. bottled water like dasani is a NO NO, it must not have any of the harsh mineral salts that normal water has. You have 3 options, R/O water from a R/O unit (I purchased a Nimbus WaterMaker Mini unit that fits any USA tap socket for $80.00) or Distilled water (must say distilled, albertons sell it, costco should to) or rain water. I would avise atleast a 40 watt flurecent bulb for your light, VFT's LOVE light, as long as the bulb is not incandesent which can burn them. It does not have to be a grow light, full spectrum bulbs just give more natural light which help the plants grow, verilux bulbs are only about $15.00 per bulb ( I buy off amazon) I have hardend off my plants, so they no longer have any humidity dome. They grow indoors on a shaded window sill with those 2 40 watt verilux bulbs hanging overhead on a timer in a light fixture. I used distilled water from albertons to begin, but this got to expensive with the purchase of my american pitcher plant outside, thus I found out about the affordable WaterMaker Mini R/O unit. I fill up my 2 gallon bottles and then clip the R/O unit off my tap and put it in the fridge until its needed next. I also foliar feed my plats with Epiphytes Delight that I purchased from californiacarnivores.com. I do this since they dont really get bugs indoors. They are honestly growing healtheir, stronger and better out of the humidity dome. You can read the topic here called "HARDENING CP's" to see how I did it (how it was suggested to me) I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. My plants are in the basement which has a day temp of between 60-70 F, with the furnace running you can imagine how low the humidy is. Hi xymox, I got the truncata for only $40! To me that's quite cheap, unlike the lowland truncata that you can easily buy less for $20 bucks. I've seen prices ranging between $100 and $70 for the highland variety on ebay and other nurseries that were offering it and usually they're offering small plants. So I felt like it was a bargain since it is quite a large plant with over 7 inch pitchers and for only $40 bucks... I couldn't pass the chance. And petolaris, sorry for your loss. I also had experience the loss of plants due to pests like worms and mices, but the worst are other people. Never seem to keep their hands off them. I had a visiting aunt who clipped all my leucos thinking their were lilac flowers or something. She said that it would look nice in the kitchen on a vase.

Geez, I got the sand from my neighbor, so I don't know if it was builders or play sand. I start at the bottom of the container and mix small amounts of the sand with the peat moss and wet it really good. Then I'll add more peat and sand and water and continue to mix really good. I've been know to even threw in some perlite. I do this all the way to the top of the container and then add the plants and then water the plants really good. I use rain barrel water.

Thanks and do you know anything about harvesting butterwort and sundown seeds? And do I have to pollenate the flowers? Any advice would be helpful.

Capensis is self pollinating I believe. Not sure about the ping. With cape dews when the last flower blooms the first seed pod should be ready. Harvest when pods are brown/black.

If it's P. primuliflora, they produce plantlets on the leaves. If it's a Mexican ping, leaf cuttings are the way to go.

I accidentally burnt my Pinguicula by leaving it outside and frogetting to bring it in. Do you think there is any chance of revivng it? If so how? By the way I feed my Capensis some fruit flies but the leaf hasn't curled arount the fruit fly and its been two days now, is that natural? And for the seed pod do I have to crush it to get the seeds? My final question is how long does it take to grow a full mature Capensis from seed? Thanks in advance.

Your capensis is acting perfectly normal and from seed you need a full year for maturation. As to the ping (can you post a picture?)all you can do is wait it out for new growth.

NO the plants will rot. You need something to improved drainage. Roots need oxygen too. Did you read anything at all on the soil search?

I have a layer on the bottom of the terrrarium for the extra water to drain out to, so will they still rot. I didn't get the perlite because I could only find a giant bag of perlite and a bag of perlite with Miracle Grow built in and so that would have to many nutrients.
