hummel's sunset cutting care?

i have rooted many cuttings from jade plants. i have not rooted a cutting from a hummel's sunset that already had nice color. i am hoping to keep the color. if anyone out there has been successful with this. i would be very grateful to hear about your method. here is a pic!

Plant it in a empty pot, and set in morning sun, wait for it to scream I have roots plant me now in mix. Then water for the first time. It will take 3 weeks 2 days and 6 minutes. My it is amazing what a good picture will do, no wonder I can't ID plants from a picture they look huge. LOL
Or put in dry soil, and wait the time, give a gentle tug and see if the roots have formed and water. LOL

Are we still discussing 'Hummel's Sunset' or now we are discussing 'Gollum' I have 'Hobbit' as well, some may have dna come from the same two parents and you will find the both forms on the same plat. I am going to start another 'Hummel's Sunset' from leaf and make sure that them indeed come true from a leaf. Most plant have green leaves to start, and develop after, my Hawortha offsets you can tell very early. Some Gasteria take longer to degelope and may need more sun to show adult features, San. may take several years. My S. dawei is finally an adult and full size. She is now 10 yrs. It depends on species and variety/form, light, soil, watering and fertilizer. So we really can't say. Most plants can't be ID until we see the flowers and the right season. I have Haworthia with several different names, depending on region/ country/ age/ and how many name changes there has been by different authors,) experts of that species who publish. I hope I explained this a little better this time. I'm not going to stay up any longer and proof this.

When I take cuttings in Summer, the color tends to stay.
I think this is because the cutting is, for all intents and purposes, a plant that is grown with very little moisture. Hard-grown plants (little water, little nutrition, full sun), as we call them, are often the most compact and brightly colored.

Norma's advice is sound. You can literally stand these cuttings in an empty pot and they'll begin to show root-primordia at the lower nodes. As soon as you have evidence of roots, pot the cutting. Or you can pot the cutting and be relatively sure that it is beginning to root beneath the soil within two weeks.

Here's a real quick additional description of my method:
Dry mix, in a semi-shaded location. No water for a week.
After a week or two, dribble some water on the mix, no closer than an inch from the stem of the cutting. When new growth begins to show, give the mix a good watering. The healthy leaves should plump up. Then, when the leaves begin to lose pressure (after a week or two), water again. The process usually takes 2 - 4 weeks.

very well rooted now and doing well. had lost a little color, but it is coming back fast.

Great job Jade Man! I have a hummel cutting that I've been trying to root here in hot/humid FL since July 4th...to this day it doesn't have a single root,lol...Maybe by October once our weather cools off a little? Other than no roots, the cutting looks very good!

I like how you bent it...was there a particular reason you did it that way? How did you do that... I think it looks pretty cool at an angle.

That's a beautiful jade! I have some sunset cuttings coming next week, and this thread was really useful to figure out what I need to do. Did you just wire the cutting to the top of the soil without burying any of the stem? Clever!

here is a profile pic. as you can see the bbq skewer a small coated wire loosely wrapped around plant and skewer. skewer held it up in the position i wanted, and i bent a piece of that wire and pushed it into the soil near the cut end to keep it from twisting. it was a little top heavy. i chose that way to root it because it gives it more places to put roots out, and those roots pin it to the soil very well.
