My Birthday Surprise!!

So yesterday was my birthday, and look what I walked outside to find!!! First bloom of the season. My husband also got me a book on Brugs.

And a cute little picture of one of my gardens, you can see a little Datura growing on the right. I found it growing outside at my work and brought it home. I bought tons of seeds, and only got a few to start but yet I find this one growing wild at work. Ugh

You know we have a link where everyone posted their B dates...I will go find it. Because we have SO many newbies...I hate to miss out on wishing a GW buddy happy B day on time :-)

what a birthday gift!! What a gorgeous color and bloom!! I just LOVE your flowerbeds and how nicely you got it arranged.

oh and the froggy...SO cute!!!

So glad you had such a special birthday this year & that your honey remembered you! That was best gift. My dad wanted to buy mom a card for her birthday this Jan. I told him I would get it, he is housebound, he struggled to sign it "I Love You Honey" went from far left to far right of card. Mom cried when she opened it! These things are so important especially when you have been together for a long time. (70 yrs May 12 for my folks) Hope the meds are very helpful & you will get many more treasured days with your honey! Happy Birthday! Jan

Get a caterer! That is a LOT of people to cook for. You can do a few things yourself and ask the caterer to serve if you ask nicely. If a caterer isn't in the budget, at least order prepared food or platters to serve. Cooking for 80 at a hall is just too much. Hard to say what kind of food. I would pick what your mom loves best -- keeping in mind what your guests will enjoy, too. If she's a baseball fan, for example, have hot dogs and peanuts and beer. If she loves travel, have exotic choices. But I think really your best bet is to give the caterer a budget and let him/her suggest things. That always works for me. For decorations, flowers always say "special occasion," but they can be expensive. You can make copies of photos of her at different stages of life and put them in inexpensive lucite frames of different sizes (you may even be able to ask the store if you can return them if you keep them in perfect shape) and put a few on each table for centerpieces, perhaps with a single flower or candle. We did that for my mother's 70th and it worked nicely. Potted flowering plants with a ribbon around the pot are also nice and inexpensive centerpieces (and a lot less work). You can give them as thank you gifts to people who help you with the party. You are so nice to do this for your mother! Good for you. I am sure she will be thrilled.

We did a Memory Jar for my sister and it was a big hit. Have each guest, out of town friend, relative, etc. write a short note, describing a favorite memory involving your MIL. Fold them, put them in the jar and let her read them at the party, or in private, if she prefers. We decoupaged photos of my sister,her family and friends on the jar, then sprayed it with fixative. Happy Birthday! What a lovely b-day present! Not only brug blooms but a cute froggy to help you celebrate! I love your flowers! What is the white one in the last pic on the left side with a gold circle in the middle? I like it! If you threw your datura seeds out on the ground they might still germinate this year or even next.

Happy birthday indagarden!!! Your yellow brugs is really nice! And your knipnophia looks great. i tried growing those from seeds but they never germinated.
I love your annual flower bed it looks so butterfly attractive!

Thank you everyone for the Birthday wishes! We were going to go around to greenhouses, and different garden tours that day but it ended up pouring rain all day. I was perfectly fine with that because we needed it so bad. I was able to make it to one greenhouse in the morning and was basicly stuck inside while it was raining so bad outside for a couple hours (no complaints there). Myself and all the girls that work at the greenhouse just stood with smiles on our faces watching the rain. Ended up buying a Gardenia topiary tree, and a whole bunch of succulents, and dishes. I came home and my husband and I built succulents planters together in the kitchen. It was so much fun!

Joyce the flowers you are asking about are Painted Daisy's. I had no idea thats what they were going to look like or I would have planted a ton of them. I think I have a bunch of seeds left if you would like some let me know.

Here are some pictures of that garden a couple months ago, it was just grass and weeds. I tore it all up and planted a bunch of seeds. I really had no idea how it was going to turn out, but I like it so far. Out of all my gardens this is the most neglected one. Way better then looking at the weeds that used to be there. Im working on getting all the pictures from ALL my gardens on my photobucket page. I love to show off my gardens, and believe it or not I rent. My landlord brings people over to take tours of the gardens and work I have done. Thanks again guys!

wow you are RENTING and doing ALL THAT? I betcha you will be staying there 4fr or? I can not WAIT till you got your pictures up on photobucket with all your gardens. If that one is the neglected one...WOW

Im so sorry Lucy they are actually Tricolor Daisy's.
I didnt know until I just pulled out the seeds. My landlord loves us. When we moved in here this place was neglected, over grown, and full of weeds. We have done so much here. Im well over $1000 in flowers, and misc garden stuff just this year alone. I work a second job in the summer just to support my habbit. We have been here for 5 years, and have no plans on moving anytime soon. We are even in the middle of laying sod, and a new 10x12 patio which is not cheap. I figure if we have to live here and look at it Im going to make it something I want to look at. I will just take all the Perennials with me when I leave. My husband says I cant take my rock wall with me I built last year, I tell him he is crazy its coming! This is a shot of my rock wall and another garden, This was a hill of weeds last summer. This picture was taken on 6-29, it changes daily with new things blooming.

It has mainly pictures of just spring bulbs when I got my new camera. I havent been able to fully upload newer pictures. Soon I promise, this is so nice having people to share my garden with and being able to see theirs. You guys are great!

ahhhhhhhhhhhh Indagarden we are SO happy you are here! You fit right in with us!!

You must be young and full of energy! Just look at ALL the stuff and changes you made to this place you can truly call your home! Well I started this post an hour ago. Then my older kitty wanted to go outside so badly, that I took her out. She was not able to be outside with me the last few days.

So now I shall go check out your album :-)

I just LOVE your rock wall and the way you put those beds together. ha ha ha your pup looks like he or she? Does not have a care in the world lol

Oh my!!!! Your landlord should pay you to live there!!!! What a wonderful job you have done! I love the rock garden and is that Monarda with the red flowers? I love your pooch also. He/She fits right in with your garden theme!!!
You were right....I looked it up....tri color and painted daisies are the same thing. They are really cool! I can't tell you how many other plants I grow now after being on this list. You see so many beautiful plants.
