Triple Purple Dat

OK well, I posted in another thread a pic of a purple dat, right? Well, it finally started to open last night..went out real early this morn, took some more pix..go out at lunch time, and the WHOLE flower was 3' away from the plant! POO! I tried to put it in a bud vase, but no good. I dont know what the heck happened..anyway, it turned out to be a BIG triple! Would have been nice if it has stayed on the plant...

You know Daniella, before I clicked on the link, I KNEW I would see a GREAT DAT!!!!

This one is AWESOME!!! Sorry it did not stay on the plant though.

OMG, D!!!! That Dat is so big and beautiful! I wish like H#*& I could grow any besides tatula. Sorry, it busted off! WTF????

Hi Patsey- Where do you live that you can start them now?! I started mine in pots, but I think they'd be easier inground like my white Dats. They just reseed everywhere, & I just move them where I want them. They have a long tap root and dislike transplanting, but I do it anyway! I had triple yellow dats too, but these Metel Triple Purples are my favorites! kasha77

Joyce soon the seeds will be on the way to your house from the double dats. To all the others I promised them, also. I do not prune Dats. So it is the natural shape ti grew into. This one grew the best and mostest lol. I will test some more next year what they like and dislike. Karma is such a inspiration to Dats and Brugs. Deb yes they are! Thanks, Treefrog...good to BE back! Everyone in my family, including my 2 year old granddaughter, had that wretched flu. I'm still coughing after 3 1/2 weeks! My son was so sick, he had to have a CAT scan. But we are all much better now, and I'm trying to catch up with stuff. Can't tell you how much I missed this group, but I did not have the energy to participate. Ill, that is the same purple dat that I grew, and seeing your picture makes me really miss it. I think I have some seeds for the night-blooming white one, too. I have to look. It was utterly fantastic. Sadly, my frosty pink brug bit the dust after a freeze a couple years ago, and I replaced it with a starburst clero. I could use another brug somewhere, but I'll have to ponder on just where to put it. I do have a small white one in a pot that Katkin gave me last summer. It will need a home this year, too. Evelyn, yours is gorgeous! Don't you think the triples look like alien beings...with a flower coming out of a flower coming out of a flower? So strange! Yet so beautiful! Marcia

yup thats a really beautiful datura! triple.. i have only ever seen the douoble im my life! the double is fair common in trinidad, but the triple.. i never knew there was!!!

I love all the new and strange plants we come accross in this forum!

I got my mail today....received a bunch of seeds I got from ebay, 960 microtubes & stands for pollen collection...but I was very upset NOT to find any cutting of this SPECTACULAR Dat., I've never grown one and this would be an awesome choice to start...I expect you to go out first thing tomorrow morning...purchase some dry ice...cut that bloom and cut some clippings (I micropropergate too...)...then overnight them to me..U got my addy - no excuses!!!!

Oh ya, BTW - Stunningly beautiful - just like its owner!!!!

I love the triple purples. They and the single whites seem to be the only kind I can grow.

OOOOOOOOH, that is really nice! Love how it opens up!
None of mine look like that! Altho I have a triple cream due to bloom soon, maybe that will look this nice!

lmao Scott..well..uh..I can send ya some seeds when they are ready..IF I get another bloom on the plant to make seeds. Tho, now that it started blooming it should go till frost.
I have another purple dat right next to this one should be bloomin any day, but I dont know if that is a triple or not as well..
Ya know...I may even have a few triple purple seeds left over from when I started this one this spring..I'll have a look see for ya..
O and regarding that other comment..Scott, you're so full of crap, your eyes should be brown..O wait a minute..I THINK THEY ARE!!! LMAO!!! Just joshin! thank you sir, for the kind compliment..too kind!

Love your purple dat!!! Hopefully the next blooms will behave better and not jump off the plant! LOL!
