I am growing many old/obscure apples, and am quite happy with some of them. A few that I give high marks to in my climate are Kidds Orange Red, Egremont Russet, Ribston Pippin, Canada Reinette, Reine des Reinettes, Hewes Crab, Wickson, Hawaii, Mother, Roxbury Russet, White Winter Pearmain, Hawaii. I also find Gala and Fuji to be wonderful here. The old apples do on average have more "problems" than the modern varieties in terms of productivity, blemishing, tree shape, etc, but most of them only have minor problems of this form, and reward you with unique flavors. Mother for example has a very small harvest window, a huge problem for a commercial grower, but often not a problem for a backyard grower who knows what a ripe one looks like and can pick when dead ripe and enjoy a little slice of heaven. Some do seem like duds as well, at least in my climate: Sturmer Pippin splits at the tops, the bugs love them extra good, and its taste isn't worth the demerits. Scott

First of all, there are different type of codes. Most image sharing sites give you BBCodes (two main types) or HTML codes. BBCodes are designed to be simple for forum posting, but Gardenweb can't translate BBCodes and your browser naturally doesn't do BBCodes either. BBCodes are for forums that use special forum software such as VBulletin, phpBB, or Invision which you may have noticed before. And HTML is (or was) the standard code for coding webpages, although their use on forums are limited because it can wreak havoc. The problem is you are trying to post a slideshow. And these things are usually encoded into a flash file. Many forums don't allow such embedding anyways, they are meant to posted on your homepage, such as a blog or a Myspace page where there is more liberal use of HTML than a forum. One of the reason it is limited on forum is because it can screw up the formatting of the site. Many html codes and file types are blacklisted because they can be used for malicious purposes as well, so naturally most sites will not support such codes except for basic embedding HTML codes for images (not flash files such as slideshows or Youtube videos) or text formatting HTML codes.

Sarracenia rubra ssp rubra. Possibly the least showy Sarracenia species but it grows like a weed and forms new crowns readily. In zone 9 Drosera binata will mulitply rapidly and is one oof the showier Drosera. I'd recommend Drosera peltata, auriculata and whittakerii but you may have trouble sourcing them. Utricularia bisquamata and livida are vigorous and flower readily. For more showy Utric, U.praelonga is very easy to grow and flower although I find the flowering season is much shorter than the others.

OK, it's not Brandywine but it's good. I ate my first one today.Looks like they go 1 to 2 pounds with a few slightly over 2. Not the 2 to 4 as Burpee promised. They are big beefstakes and some gravy boat shaped. I don't prune so I am not disappointed in their size. PH makes consistently large tomatoes that taste good so I am happy with it. My plants are very bushy and about 7.5' tall now. Production is very good for such large fruit. I will take pics of individual toms in a couple days when they are totally ripe. The one I just ate was a "little" guy about 10 ounces which is about as little as you can find one on the plant. I am happy with PH so far this season.
