Laurel Tree Help Needed to save fruits/seeds

A poster on the Florida Gardening forum asked a question about Redbay trees and then a discussion went on about the beetle that is invading all species of the Laurel tree family.

Someone who responded works for the Division of Forestry or a similiar organization and there is an attempt to collect the fruits/seeds from the members of this tree family, to help repopulate areas that are being destroyed.

Info is given on how to do this as well as info on the infestation itself. I am not good at transferring stuff like that but if you can help, go the the Florida Gardening Forum and on page 2 (as of Saturday) and look for the posting by palmcityfl titled Red Bay Trees to get the info.

The fruits on my Redbay are ripening now so it is the time to collect them. I would hate to see us lose the host trees for our beautiful Spicebush and Palamedes Swallowtails.

If someone can transfer the info over here that might help too. Thanks,

Mary
