Finally! We're getting snow in Hickory! :) The news showed a lot coming down in Charlotte and we expect from 3 to 6 inches here. I'm like a kid at Christmas! Been waiting all winter for this. . .

What are ya'll getting, ice or snow?

Perhaps this discussion should be moved to Conversations since we can't garden in the SNOW. Ugggggh!

Unless maybe we're inside with the seed flats and those blinkety lights, some shiny new seed catalogs and visions of lilyplums dancing in our heads.

My son told me it was snowing on my plants. I told him he needed to run out and brush the snow off of them for me. He didn't fall for it though. I love to see the snow falling. Maybe you can't garden much in it, but it is good for the plants. -Ais.

Planted 2 small 12 inch 2 flower plants beginning of July and both plants had about 20 flowers each and quadrupled in size. I have them planted in full sun and they are planted where it is not too dry. Alot of them had deformed petals, seems like the roots couldn't catch up. I'll be interested to see what happens next summer.

Love that card, Janice! I went to college with someone who grew up in Florida-he had never seen snow. Too funny. I grew up in Pennsylvania, so we had plenty. I still love it. Hoping for a snow day from school tomorrow and maybe Tuesday as well! DS is driving back to our area today. He was in Denver to visit his best friend and couldn't fly back since the air port is closed. He's in Ohio now. He can't wait to get home to see the snow. He stopped for a snow shovel up there somewhere-his girlfriend is snowed in. She can't even open the storm door. We aren't often this lucky. DH is shoveling a path to the street even though I contracted with someone to clear our drive and sidewalks this year. I doubt he was expected such a large snowfall. Wonder if he will get here. No worries if not, I am snug and cozy inside.

Frou..what a lovely - lovely table. That milkglass centerpiece it's just so pretty. Your snowflake tablecloth is just perfect with your place settings (so striking)..and I love the added snowflake for each. I think the glassware and their color is just beautiful too. What a clever way to 'swirl' the snowball/pom-pom garland around the table...it's such a lovely touch. We got tons of snow here the other day and more is on it's way... Shall I fill up the bus? jane

Looking at the news about the monster storm back east, I think the people there will have a tough time. At least, they have had plenty of warning so they can do the best they can under the circumstances. Our weather here in the valley has been glorious, 70+ during the day and about 40 at night. I would like some rain, but there is nothing I can do about that, so I enjoy the weather while it is here.

When it snows really deep and you go stand outside in the yard it is like the world has gotten taller or somehow closer to you, everything is puffed up. As long as it doesn't bring down the hoopey house roof, which I doubt it will. A nice thin layer of snow or ice makes a wonderful blanket and actually helps keep the inside of the structure warm.

Back home on the flat lands it rarely snowed like this - there were always 20 mile an hour winds to blow it sideways. Cold is a lot easier to take when there is no wind.

Now I just gotta finish up some work, transfer a bunch of files to my laptop and sneak outta here while no one is looking.

If you're winter-sowing this is perfect weather! :)I'll probably plant a half-dozen more containers. . .And there' always the new seed catalog. . .

We grew up and schooled in New England and now we're such wimps about driving in the snow.
Best can be said is it's just the weather I needed after a late planting of bulbs. Keep them dormant.

Glad to hear from more people who enjoy the white stuff! :) All my bulbs are coming up already. Hope this doesn't affect the blooms. Snow had tapered off, with just a few flurries, but now it's started up again.

Lucky you all who got snow - I got a dusting of snow and am now getting freezing rain!!! I HOPE the power stays on - I'm off to scrub and fill the bath tub.

Ww started with snow early this morning and by 8:30 a.m. it has turned to slush. It has stopped now.

About 3 weeks ago, we planted several Savannah Hollies and today I noticed robins and bluebirds taking turns eating the berries. That was a nice surprise!

It's snowing here in Eastern NC in Greenville by ECU. How pretty my evergreen hollies and shrubs look with a dusting of snow. This morning two tiny brown birds were feasting on some seed I threw out the front door(brrrrr, it was cold)on my walkway. Tomorrow it will be like it never happened. I am so glad my almost 5 year old Granddaughter got to make snowballs. She has been waiting for this for months and I am so glad, at almost five, she got to experience real snow. I hope the cold killed lots of lousey skeeters too!
