Aloe ferox oddity

Can you explain this? I have an Aloe ferox that I bought about a year ago or longer in a 3-inch pot. I first planted it in a spot that gets only a couple hours of morning light. It was showing signs of phototropism, leaning toward a brighter area, so I moved it to a place that gets a lot more sun, especially in the afternoon. It also happens to be on a rather steep slope, which faces approximately east.

Now, as you can see in the link below, it's kind of curled up its "fingers," almost like it's getting too much sun where it is. It seems to be trying to shade its apical meristem area, if that term is correct.
