Peaches & Cream has brown spots, why?

I have no idea about my P&C unless it is because of the heat,any ideas?Oh but she smells so good this is the first day for the blooms they will be quite a lot darker tomorrow.TIA,Bonnie

from what I know, could be mechanical damage, from just about anything including handling,and sometimes after a while they will turn like that, as they try to hold on from old age. :)

Oh but i just re-read these are fresh just opened.. hmmmm.

Or it could be a temporary fungus, Have they been very wet? I had the same symptoms on some that were close to the ground and there was not too much airflow.
I am not concerned, I just need to open it up some. Can this apply to you?

Many of my blooms are doing the same thing and they drop after a day. I think it might be our waether and this year has been the worst I have seen on blooms. The plants in my son's yard (with total neglect are doing great tho--go figure!) However they were well established over several years. I am discouraged on many situations! Hope all of you have blooms that do welll in the fall and to all in FL I am saying prayers for each of us! May Faye bless us rains, but no damage. God bless each of you.

In the OP, it was mentioned that the plant was above a "rock filled water tray ... for humidity. I hope it's not sitting in its own effluent that collects in a drain saucer. Using a wick, like mike suggested, would be less effort and will accomplish the same thing as employing the pot-in-pot technique. The problem with pot-in-pot is, the water in the soil of the larger pot is going to stay there until it evaporates, and I can see some potential problems associated with anaerobic decomposition in the larger pot's soil. Skip the water meter. Buy a 1/4 or 5/16" wood dowel & sharpen it in a pencil sharpener. Use THAT to test the soil for moisture. Push it deep into the soil - if it comes out damp and dark or wet - no water required. The fertilizer is appropriate insofar as the NPK ratio, but what else does it contain? Reading the ingredient list of the potting soil and assuming the ingredients with the highest volumes are listed first, it HAS to be extremely water retentive - which means you can't water appropriately w/o risking root rot or at least impaired root function. You can't move it outdoors, but that's where it WANTS to be. Here's the thing - bottom line: The plant is obviously suffering because it's being forced to deal with cultural conditions it's not genetically capable of dealing with. If you can't isolate and fix the issues that are causing the decline, it will continue, so you'll need to go back to the drawing board and look at the big picture. The first considerations are checking for insects & root problems/disease, and making sure the plant is in an appropriate soil (if it's not, your watering habits need to be adjusted so they allow for a poor soil) and in the right light/temp range. If these issues don't come up in the favorable column, there isn't a lot of sense in chasing it much further until you're willing to take charge and make some changes. It looks sort of like cork and it is by the surface of the pear. Each spot is something like 1/8" or so (bigger or smaller as well). I think Geraldo may have it there; bitter pit is primarily a problem on apples but I have also seen it on my asian pears. One last long shot is stink bugs, but these mainly deform the fruit and you did not mention deformed fruit. See good link below for more information on bitter pit including treatment. lindama: It's very common for a rhododendron not to set flower buds the year it's planted out. Growers, for very understandable reasons, want their plants to be loaded with buds as they sit in their pots in the nursery. To do this, they grow them with full sun, misting or automated watering, high doses of fertilizer. Once the plant is out of its pot, it puts most of its energy into growing roots and branches rather than flowers. Long term, this is a plus. Both English Roseum and Nova Zembla are large growers, so it may take a couple of years for them to begin setting large numbers of buds. If everything else is as it should be - soil, moisture, etc. - the number 1 reason for few flowers is too little sun.

Sounds like what you have is something called "Solar Lentigoes", which are harmless discolorations caused by years of sun exposure. Your dermatologist can either remove them by either freezing or using a laser. I had one by my eyebrow that was about the size of a dime. My doctor removed it using a laser around two years ago. It has never returned. However, as this procedure is considered "cosmetic", insurance wonÂt cover it. I believe it cost me between $150/250 to have "the big one" removed in addition to 4 or 5 smaller ones. Obviously, it was well worth it to me. (this photo is not me, but my "brown spots" looked just like that).

Usually on any plant that is from too much water. Gotten alot of rain lately?
Another possibility is that a bug ate through before it opened, and the bud got wet inside and began to rot.
Are the rest OK?
I suppose it could also be bruising, did the bud get squeezed at all?

Bonnie another possibility is that it got too crispy dry for a day or two during an early critical part of flower development. If you recontinued with proper watering, it could have taken the rest of the time during full flower development for the affected areas to mush out.
Is this one rootbound? How often are you having to water in this heat? Do you get droopy leaves before watering occasionally?
A little bad news on the name, I don't believe that's 'Peaches & Cream'. It looks to be a standard multi-hybrid flower form, instead of the true versicolor look of a true 'Peaches & Cream'. It's still a beautiful plant though, and it's going to do great for you when it cools off. :^)

I have been watering at least once a day it has been so dry nope no rain,
Barry,I don't think it has been to wet,to dry maybe,it could have been bruised by one of the grandbabies,but other than that I have no clue,
Tom,you may be right but it was sold to me with a tag and P&C on it.Oh well I still like it it smells wonderful.Thank you all for your help.Bonnie

There has been many wrong identities of P&C over the years, yours certainly isn't unique I am afraid. Your blooms hang much more like Maya's or Sunset.

Sometimes when it is really hot, the moisture within the calyx (before opening) will heat up so much that it burns the flower so it appears like yours when the flower opens.

Yes I see the differance,you are right,it looks more like the Maya,but since I am not sure it has turned into a noid varigated,but it is pretty so I think I will keep it anyway,sorry if I mispelled in this post it is early to be thinking much,lol,Thank you all,hugs Bonnie
