I think if you just give it good pure water and lots of full sun that it will bounce back. It might look sickly for a little bit because it hasn't been hardened, but it should eventually bounce back. Just be patient and it should come back.

You should never transplant VFTs during their growing season, UNLESS you have a good reason. as Outsiders71 said, if you keep the compoist moist at all times, the roots will begin to grow into the soil, also give it plenty of sun light for it to recover from shock... just be patient with the plant. the plant may recover back in less than 3 weeks. just be patient with it.

Alright I guess Ill try and be patient.I got another question though.I put aquarium rocks at the bottom of the container,what would happen if the roots start growing into the rocks?I gave it about 3-5 inches of soil,is that enough?

3-5 inches of soil is way enough for a young flytrap. i suppose the aquarium rocks will hold the water from the moist peatmoss and bottom of the water tray.. in this condition, you have to grow it outside in full sun not in terrarium because the roots of the flytrap will rott due to water hold inside its pot and lack of air circulations. i may doubt the roots will reach that far into the small pebbles, that depends if the plant is large or small.. if it's small it will do fine. just next time don't place any pebbles under the peat moss; the plant may have difficulties traveling its roots for more oxygen and root growth. just don't transplant your flytrap again, i doubt its roots will reach the bottom of the pot. transplant it next time in the next spring.. hope this helps and may your flytrap recover soon.

I wouldn't doubt the VFT's rooting length Xymox. I bought a typical venus fly trap from Wal-mart that came in a 3-inch pot and a humidity dome. When I repotted it, I noticed that the roots went all the way through the sphagnum it was growing in.

Well it is in a terrarium :( My plants gonna die isnt it? Its a pretty small plant so maybe the roots wont reach the pebbles,who knows.Im just gonna hope for the best,if it dies Im ordering a big mouth fly trap soon so Ive learned from my mistakes enough for that one to flourish.

If it's a small plant. then the roots may not reach the bottom of the pot where the rocks are; Just like Xymox Mentioned. Just because it's in a terrarium it does not mean your plant will die. just try your best JimBob_VFT. You can grow your plant under cool flourecent lights. if your terrarium has a lid on the top, then you can grow it in a bright window, However if your terrarium has a lid, then remove the lid while the plant is in the window sill. don't ever close the terrarium lid when your plant is in the window sill because it will Cause the plant to wilt and die from heat. be patient with it, first.. if the plant starts decaying and then all the sudden, it totally dissapears, then yes.. it's dead. Don't lose hope as yet. it can still make it. grow it under lights better since you mentioned that you have your plant inside a terrarium.by the way, terrariums don't need much water, water it everytime the soil shows sign of dryness. Well repotting is not the issue.
Its the same for any plant, its how careful you are and what happens during your repotting process.
Many people end up breaking roots because they are in a rush, this will send the plant in immediate shock.
I have repotted my VFT's atleast twice during their growing seasons, once to a bigger terrarium and then to pots when I saw the light as to what a crock this "CP's will die without 80% humidity" story is.

No matter if your plant is in shock or in 100% health, always adapt it to either or both humidity and sun of the area where you will be placing it.
To adapt it from a 100% humdity terrarium will take you about 10-12 days in all, to adapt it to full sun about 5-7 to be safe.
Once they have gone through these processes your plants will be far better off.
There is no point in rushing the job, kinda like been stuck indoors for 6 months and then going to the beach for a whole day without sunblock.

Just be patient with the plant, give it plenty of good light and keep it watered and it will come back.

I did not have time to read eveything, but I understand that you transplanted your plant twice?

If you did, this is why it is growing slow.

Aquarium rocks are not ok because many of them are highly alkaline, and when water gets mixed with the rocks the alkalinity of the water passes to the soil mixture.

Next time use carbon at the bottom, silver sand, perlite or washed glass pebbles.

You can keep the plants in your terrarium, just do not water so much that the water will travel to the rock area. It is easy to do this. Just water with a sprayer and the water will be absorbed by the soil mixture before it gets to the rocks. Just watch the water through the transparent walls. In a terrarium you are not supposed to water more than that anyways.

Next time your plants get fungi, cut the area that has it. No fungi grows on parts of the plant which are alive and healty. Decaying cells are the ones where fungi mostly grows.

If fungi is growing in a healthy area, chances are your terraium is to humid. Do not let the terrarium walls get foggy, for that is a sign that you have too much moisture.

Take out the fungi in healthy areas with a moist Q-tip on one end, then dry the area with the other end.

When it comes to transplanting keep the plants where they are and see how well they grow. Chances are, it will take a few months for the alkalinity of the rocks to pass to the soil. Your plants need to get stronger.

Or maybe you are lucky and those rocks are not alkaline. You can get a ph test kit to test the alkalinity of the water, crush some of those small rocks, then put water on your test kit vile, put the drops to see the color of the water, then dumpt what you have crushed from the rocks inside the vile. If the water in there turns another color when you dump the rocks and that color is blue, you know your rocks are alkaline.

If the water has turn blue without the rocks, you will need to acidify the water. Just place clean clear water in a drinking glass, place a couple of drops of lemon in it and test the water. The water should be a kind of greenish yellow when you place the color drops on the vile to test the water. That is the newtral color. Then after you have your neutral color, dump the crushed rocks and see if the color changes to blue.

If you have colored rocks crush one that is of a green color, then crush another one that is a yellow color and see if you get the same results when you test them.

I think my plant might be doing better now.Its actually starting to get some red in the traps,and its starting some new growth! Wether it lives in the long run who knows but its starting to look alot healthier.

Byron,would a pool alkalinity test work for the rocks? I checked the water Im giving my plant and its exactly at 7.Does it need to be more acidic than that?

7 PH should be fine if I am correct.
If your fish gravel is a major worry and you need to replace it, remember to get your hands on a bag of Perlite.
Its not really expensive and a fair amount of nurseries and places like Home Depot or Lowes normally has big sacks.

Your plant should now be 100% that you see new growth, well done!!!

It is a bit alkaline, but that does not matter since when the water mixes with the acidic soil, it will turn acidic.

So that is fine.

Sorry for my last answer, I think what you meant was if the water is neutral enough for testing the rocks? In this case no, it is not.

It has to be about 6 to 6.5. This will tell you much better when you place the crushed material in the vile. If the rocks have no alkalinity they will not affect the water color.

Alright I checked the rocks,they arnt alkaline (whew!) Yet another question though.I forgot to mention that my plant is in a fish bowl(I know,its not a fish) which is probbly another mistake cause its completely sealed except the top.

(sigh)

Should I replant it back into a pot if Im really carefull? If I do should I change the soil mix as its just in all sphagnum? Or would this just confuse the hell out of my plant again?
