Put them outside in full sun, keep them with plenty of distilled water, and forget about them, basically. They do need to go dormant in the winter. It really depends on your location and temps, though. If it gets below 20 degrees F then that will be too cold, you can put them in the refrigerator for three months instead. If it gets high 90's -100 F then they may need to be in partial sun rather than full sun in the worst part of the summer. But I wouldn't bring them inside if you can help it.

Your flytraps are looking very good! It looks like the pitcher plant you have is Sarracenia Purpurea. This is a slower growing species than some of the others. I have one in my collection that is just starting to sprout. Like back2eight said, put em out and let em grow!

The only thing I would add is that as long as you see green, no matter how 'death warmed over" they look, there is life. Both species do best as outdoor plants, requiring as much sunshine they can get.

Sry but it doesnt look like a S. pupurea.. the bottom of the pitchers come up to vertical and dont get wide enough towards the base.... you would need to see the Pitchers fully matured, well otherwise just kep them at what you are doing.. the VFT seems to be fine otherwise I agree with every thign ealse.

although my High intestisty growlamp (High pressure sodium duel spectrum grolux) has enough light to grow sun lovers such as hibiscus and passion flowers very susessfully so is there any chance of growing them indoors?
only the garden dosent get very much sun at all (shaded by next doors trees) so my gro lamp would give them much more sun equivalent.
i have read about fertilizing the underside of the leaves with a q tip in orchid fertilizer making sure not to et it on the soil, is that any good?

Sarracenias and VFT's are really outdoor plants. You can do it inside, but they won't do well in the long run.

If your garden is shaded, then find a spot that is not shaded. Put them in hanging baskets if you have to. You would be messing with them too bad moving them indoors and then having to move them to outside or something like that for dormancy. Everytime you move a plant they have to get readjusted to the difference in light levels and humidity and it can make them go into shock. If you can find a place outside that has lots of sunlight and just leave them there, they will do much better for you in the long run.

its not a purpurea it was much taller and tinner and had white blotches around the frill at the top with red veins they where about 6 inches tall.
i have purchased another VFT to have indoors and i am going to trial them as i would really much prefer it to be indoors with me LOL

As much as every one wants them indoors, Trust us we all do!
They do best out doors in lots of sun! If you cant put them out its ok, you can keep them in but they will do alot happyer if they are indoors, pluss youre Sar will get a bit big for staying indoors. WE would all put out our Neps if we could, but they cant stay out all summer and lighting them during the winter is preaty tuff w/ out a green house. so put out youre Plants, but if you really want them indoors i would get a few lights.

headbanger, I have a scarlet belle, too. It is growing more every day! It has a nice red color to it. I hope it gets a lot of size on it before winter again. Right now it is still ugly from repotting and trimming off dead pitchers after it woke up.

I do have a light a really powerful 1000 watt Hortilux growlamp
used by proffesional tomato growers it provides the same amount of spectrums as the sun ie ytellow red to green blue bar UV!
i HAVE sucsessfully grown tomatos under it and they where delicious :)
the venus fly trap i bought yesterday is starting to turn red under it! (the leaves).
take a look at this picture of my grow room (in my bedroom)
i have cycads anthurium orchids passionflowers hibiscus nepenthes and now VFT and SARs aswell!!!
seriously i really think what i will do is keep them in here up to september and then pop them out just when it starts to cool down again for their dormancy :)

That would be good for a nep or two...

Just rember they should be put to sleep around October, I still say it works better if you grow them out doors, they will get lots more insects, and they get more air circulation, less chance of fungal infection. But hey if it works easy for you w/e floats youre boat man!
