Hey badger07, welcome! This is an issue all the time it seems. I have so many mis-named Amaryllis, I can't tell you. If you read back on the forum, you will find this to be more normal than not that bulbs get mislabeled. One way to 'kind of' insure you are getting the named bulb you want is to deal with a reputable grower. However, that can be more expensive, but worth it. Most will correct or exchange any misnomers. Box stores are notorious for setting out mis-marked plants. I hope this does not discourage your love of amaryllis or any other plants. It's kind of a buyer beware. You don't always get what you ask for, but I have also had some wonderful surprises from this! Best wishes!

Those can originate from the axillary bud of each fourth leaf. So in order to get more blooms you (of course! ... but in this case it's really closely linked) have to have more leaves! ;) So give the bulb full sun, good draining medium (so you can reduce the risk of fungus) and water periodically - but then give the bulb a good gulp with some chemical fertilizer if you have them in pots! "Also, what controls the length of the flower stem?" I think there are diffent factors controling the lenght. Mostly it's the genes but you can influence it via temperatures. There have been some examples here on the forums where people showed pics of their blooms directly atop the bulb's neck. Those where influenced by colder temperatures if I recall correctly.
