I especially enjoy seeing the live sphag!
It looks like you have the S. purpurea pot in water up to the rim of the pot? Right??
I would drop the water down to half the pot and see how the S. purpurea reacts. The moss should do ok as it sucks water up to the top. Or you could always sprinkle some from above.
I am presuming they are inside. So note my experiences with Sarrs are with growing them outside 24/7!

FWIW, I grow a lot of my S.purpurea flooded (the S.pittacina need company). Whereas a lot of Sarra's will suffer rhizome rot when saturated, my S.purpurea's grow well in deep water and I have never had a problem with rotting or poor growth. S.purpurea just seems flexible as far as how much water it can handle. My plants are also grown outside 24/7.

Thank you for all the nice comments. We were out of town for 8 days and I couldn't wait to see how my flowers did and also, to eat my first tomatoes. My neighbors took good care of my flowers. Vera, most of the verbena bonar. overwintered for me, even though it's not supposed to be hardy here. The overwintered ones bloomed earlier than the volunteers. I think my beds look pretty messy, especially that round center one. proudgm: the mulch is just cheap shredded dark bark, bags from a cheap local nursery. I do also mulch all of my beds with shredded leaves in the fall, though. We have also had heat and drought most of this summer. Our rain deficit is now over 8 inches. Supposed to be 95 and humid again today, and stay in the 90s for the next week with no rain until maybe a week from today. Karen

hurrray! I just love Cym Melody Fair/Marilyn Monroe! It's so wonderful seeing your orchids in bloom! Wow and wow! I would mention the others too, but my brain cannot remember the names in time for me to type out all at once. It's like Laelia x self and uhhhhh, um! whoops, the vivid scarlet-single-faced one with the five petals, LOL! With the Cym Melody Fair/Marilyn Monroe you can really appreciate the fineness of details with the speckling of pinks extended along its petals, each curvature is perfection! Absolutely lovely! To me it's an orchid that is so Pearl-like!

I live in zone 5, I bring them into an unheated garage with a window, and no its not flooded it just looks that way, I am going to move my S.pittacina to more flooded conditions w/ my S. purpurea hopefully this summer. And The VFT is a gift from my GF... lol, she gave it to me last month and I havent had the chance to move it out doors.
