OT: Karyn you mentioned your best shopping sites in a thread

I was wondering...would you mind sharing it with ALL of us in a NEW thread from you...????

I do use the search engine now and you do find a lot of answers and I don't have to ask again and again. Since, well the mind....lol

I trust the tips on nurseries etc from here blindly.

If you do not want to do it...hmmmmmmmmmm or is it against the rules? But you are not the owner...so it should be ok right? Could I please request a e mail?

I will appreciate it and DH will curse the mail ha ha ha ha

I was actually supposed to send this to someone in an email but I apologize that I haven't gotten around to it yet and will post here. I don't know if it's against the rules. If so I guess it will be pulled.

My absolute favorite mail order nursery is Zone 9 Tropicals. They send the biggest healthiest plants. They are located somewhere in TX. If I lived nearby I'd be like a kid in a candy shop. Another in TX is Caldwell Nursery. They no longer do mail order but if you are anywhere near Rosenburg, TX check them out. Annie's Annuals has a fantastic selection of hard to find plants. I have a GW friend in CA that picks them up and ships to me so I don't know if their mail order plants are as big. Kartuz has nice starter size plants as does Glasshouse Works. Gardino is also very good. Grassy Knolls for passion vines. Four Winds has the best dwarf citrus. If you know anyone in the SF Bay area see if they'll go to one of Strybing Arboretum's sales for you, great plants, good prices. I also like Pepper's (Accents for Home and Garden). They send great plants for the price but don't try to ask any questions online and sometimes their plants are labeled incorrectly but I really like them. On Ebay there's dogwooderitternet (my favorite seller), arghyagardens, passiflorista, wellspring100 and I like katz_kuntry_kuttins but know others that have had issues with them. I'm probably forgetting a few but will add them if I remember. These aren't nurseries that I buy brugs from. You can find plenty of recommendations for brug sellers here already.

Garden Watchdog is the best resource for checking out mail order nurseries. The GW Rate & Review Vendors forum is a good place to look as well. I don't want to write who I don't like on here but pretty much any of the places that send out the gorgeous catalogs are usually on my "do not buy from" list. lol

I too have been just "plugging" away at keeping up with things. I found an old green box on legs at a flea market type store and planted a couple tomatoes in it. Then I planted two more tomatoes, two pepper plants and a cucumber plant at the side of my shed. Not sure I have any "green" in my thumbs at all, but I feel best when puttering outside with stuff. I've spent lots of time with friends, going to breakfast or lunch or maybe a bit of "treasure shopping" for the fun of it. Even went on my first "senior" bus trip which was very nice. Just pay your money and sit back and leave the driving, parking, tips, gas cost, etc. etc. to them! I don't like my life without DH in it, but I know I have no choice so am trying to find my way and to develop some interest in things again. I stop by here to read, but just haven't had anything worthwhile to share. I love you all and hope you know you are all special ladies. Hugs, Luvs

You are getting lots of good advice especially from kellyeng, teacats and egbar. I had a fabulous realtor couple when selling my last home. We interviewed 3 full-time (don't go w/ a part-timer) experienced (at least 5yrs) real estate teams (2-3 people so you're covered ) who were good sellers in the area and who seemed to have good marketing skills. One team clearly was not up to par and we selected the best. They hired a pro photographer and paid for a stager to come in after we had things clean and decluttered and somewhat staged. I wrote, or tweeked, quite a bit of copy and made a sheet listing highlights of the property and recent improvements. That was well received by our realtor (who shared the goal of selling) and buyers. The realtor did a great job of marketing to other realtors and managing showings, feedback, offers, etc. We sold fairly quickly in a tough market. I have also sold 2 homes in more rural areas w/o a realtor but working with an experienced real estate attorney who provided me with appropriate forms for disclosure, offers, etc. Of course, I did all of the marketing. One was sold to a neighbors sister after we had an open house (not common in the area). They were not even looking to buy a house! I would expect your agent to do an open for agents and another general one shortly after listing even if it's not customary. I also made sure the house was presented well -- better than the norm. Clean, decluttered, and simple repairs and staging done. It sounds like that is what you have done and it should make your home sell quicker. But there is a time to say "enough" and get it on the market. It sounds like you are at that point. Good luck. Choose the best of the lot, don't sign a long listing so they will have to continue to earn your business, work with the agent on getting marketing set up then let them do their thing.. Mutual respect will go a long way to achieving the end you both want--a sold house.

I just purchased a rug off of Ideeli. This site sales samples and maybe overstocks and is mostly clothing but every week adds new household and decorating items. A friend told me about it after she purchased a duvet for her bed. I got a great deal on a rug! The rug is gorgeous but I was really nervous ordering! I bought a dress, too :) Now I check it twice a day. They put deals up for a couple of days and then take them off. There is a lot of passion here. Rightfully so. Rose gardeners are especially passionate people. We attempt to learn, are not afraid to act, and enjoy doing. What I have found, in this antique rose forum, is that I am able to learn from others here, read their perspectives, then take action in my own garden in order to create my own experience. Conversations about roses within this forum are wonderful, but the magic happens in my own yard when I apply what I learned in the conversation. I believe the same can be said for this particular thread. Talking about our different political perspectives is interesting. But the real magic happens through our actions, regardless of where we stand on the left or on the right. This can be something as simple as supporting a news organization that aligns with your own perspective or signing petitions. It can also be more involved and personal, such as volunteering your time and expertise. Regardless of where you stand politically, you can see an area of need within this current political climate and choose fill it. Even being just one person, we can each make a difference. That is obvious within each of our gardens, as we cultivate the soil. We can also cultivate change in other areas of life too. I said this previously, but I volunteer at the VA hospital, at community kitchens, at an elder life program at a local hospital, and also by speaking to youth and women's groups about health and fitness. I do this because I see areas of need within populations of the elderly, veterans, and women and children... areas I have skills and knowledge in. Even though I was a single parent for many years, even though I work, and even though I am going back to school. I find the time because it is important to me... and each time I volunteer I leave feeling as though I have gained more than I could ever give. I also feel as though I am taking actions based on my beliefs and making a real difference. I volunteer side by side with other democrats and republicans with many different political views. But we each saw an area of need and chose to fill it. There is common ground. Regardless of my own political views, regardless of the political climate, regardless of the political choices being made in our country and others, I choose to be the change I personally want to see in the world. I am only one person, but my actions matter. I believe each of yours do too. The people within this forum are absolute do-ers. I completely believe in each of your abilities, because I have seen what you can each do in your gardens... and I personally believe the same life skills from gardening translate over into so many other areas. Action for change can be small. It doesn't have to be something that burdens you. It can be uplifting. Here's a quick article with ideas of different ways you can be politically active. I am lucky enough to live quite near Caldwell nurseries. I shop there often and love it.

If you can go, it is worth the trip. She has brugs, almost any kind of bamboo, cannas, etc. Lots of really nice plants.

I have a tomtom now...if my DH lost all his fear of traveling...I should be able to go find a lot of nurseries now ha ha ha ha

It is always such a thrill to find a nursery with all the right plants.

I wish I lived near Caldwell and I really wish they would do mail order again. I was so bummed out when the owner told me that she could no longer ship plants. Caldwell and Zone 9 send the biggest, healthiest plants.

I have a horrible sense of direction and couldn't find my way out of a paper bag. Thank God for my Garmin. lol

Caldwell nursery covers a couple of acres, at least. Often I like to go, get a wagon, put my purse on it and spend a couple of hours just sitting on the benches and looking at the huge brugmansia and hope the wind rustles the bamboo.

Oh my Gosh...I just looked at their webpage very briefly but I just fell in love with: GINGER! they have over 50 varieties!! I can not believe that there are so many and just look at them WOW.

I can believe that this is such a great place to be...and just sit and enjoy the gorgeous plants and tranquility of the bamboo rustling in the wind.

Now I am on the hunt for SEED places. It is time to think about those :-)

Zone 9 Tropicals will be open for onsite sales August 15th! Count me in, it's only 200 miles away! I wonder if I can convince DH to go through Rosenberg on the way?

I also LOVE Z9T.. They are in Houston which is a ways to drive.. But the next time I go to Cove we may have to plan a day trip!!!

Well, I must admit that we had already planned to be in Houston this weekend visiting family.

At least Zone 9 is closer to town. Last time, I convinced DH to go with me to Sunland in Dickinson and we spent most of Saturday on the Gulf Freeway. I found the white Plumbago I had not been able to find here in San Antonio.

Thanks, Lucy. For some reason, they purged my account because I hadn't used it for 120 days. Not true, and I told them so. It should be back now, but I lost all the old emails and addresses.
