Ceropegia Woodii (String of Hearts)

I just purchased a string of hearts plant from a local nursery.....i haven't had one of these since college (long time ago) and I am so thrilled!!! i would go nuts if it died....anyway i know about not overwatering and all of that. its in an east window....it has very long vines and lots of flowers on them....but alot of the vines look thin.....although the plant seems to have a decent amount of new growth on the ends.,...i scarcely see any of the bulbs....calexes...or whatever they are called and i was wondering if this means there is a problem with it??

also i want to try to propagate some additional cuttings just to be safe.....but do you absolutely have to do this from one of the bulbs....or can you just cut off a strand and stick it in to soil and have it root?

the few bulbs there are seeem to be way at the beginning (top) of the strands.....i'm nervous to cut a big long strand off....and not have it take root....any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!
