All of you look like you are from NC. :) :) Where are all the SC gardeners? Are there any SC swaps that anyone knows about?

Hello Cindy. We're here. Just not as vocal as the N.C. folks. There was a swap in Charleston last Spring. Unfortunately, due to previous commitments, I was unable to attend. Hopefully, we'll have it again next year. Stay tuned. There's quite a few of us Palmetto State gardeners in here. Welcome back. Tony

I would have never thought of that! What kind of ratio of water-to-Roundup... 50-50, maybe? There aren't any kids around my house and the dogs are enclosed in the back, fenced portion of the property... the azaleas are outside the fence, so no problem there. Does a 2-liter soda bottle sound about right for the container? The vines do come up from center of the base of the bushes... can the Roundup hurt the bushes if the roots of the Honeysuckle are mingled with the azalea's roots? (I think that azalea roots tend to be shallow... not sure about the Honeysuckle.)

There's a group in Pendleton that meets once in a while. I don't know what they do. They show up in the little local freebie Hometowner paper that the Anderson Independent puts out. Hello everybody, I'm sorry I won't be able to make it to this show to join the group as I had planned. I had looked so forward to meeting my plumie friends at what would have been my first time attending the Spring Garden Show at SCP. I am currently in the middle of a huge project at work which has and will keep me working long hours until last minute on friday 4/29, before leaving for my Hawaii trip early the next morning! It would be nearly impossible for me to make it to the show. I hope to see lots of your pictures, and hope I'll get to meet you guys maybe in a different event this summer. Have fun everybody!

Joule, if you go over to the discussions board, I just brought up Brenda's map that shows where we are all from. You might want to register. It's sort of fun to see the dispersal over the two states.

I have to ask, as nice as NC is, it seems SC must be even nicer - what is it down there? Everyone I meet who lives there seems so happy to be there, and anyone I've ever met from there who now lives somewhere else just can't wait to get back.

Only speaking for myself here:

I am from Illinois originally and this is why I like SC and will stay forever:

I like not having snow, not enough to matter anyway

Cost of living is pretty decent compared to most

I love the swamps, mountains, ocean, and the country, we are within an hour or two of all of those things

I like to be near, but not too near, a metropolitan area - again, we are w/in an hour or two of several

On the negative side the State newspaper once described Columbia as the 'screen door to hell' because it is so hot here in the summer. But I can take that better than I can take the cold.

I moved here in 1987 and though I travel quite a bit I have no desire to ever live anywhere else.

BTW, our favorite weekend excursion is a trip to N.C.. Our next trip we are headed for some little town just north of Ashville - can't remember the name at the moment.

God's country! It doesn't really matter to me which state you're talking about but the area known as upstate in SC and 'the Mountains' in NC or whatever TN and GA call their sections - that space where the Blue Ridge and the Appalachians run through all those states is the purdiest place on the planet. Don't know if I will ever get to live there but I sure do like to drive through it every chance I get.

As a proud member/ring leader/den mother of the central NC bunch I will admit we are a loud and rowdy bunch. You should see us at the swaps!!! One of these days we're gonna steal a cargo van, load up and head down to Spartanburg and hide out at Jeff's swap. hee hee hee

Hi Cindy! Upstate SC here (born and raised)living slap-dab-in-the-middle between Easley and Clemson. I suppose if we're too vocal, Jeff will be calling on us to help with one of those swaps I hear he likes to organize/host from time-to-time. ;)

Brenda, I love so many things about our state (couldn't say it any better than Gurley). I live in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains and have several sweeping views along my drive home no matter which direction I travel (couldn't describe it better than John). There is just something that calls me when I'm away and my heart answers whenever I see those beautiful mountains and I start passing home-folks "throwing up a hand" at
me...home!!

If you smile and strike up a conversation with 95% of our population, you'll gain a friend before its end and we take great pride in showing off our best "Southern Hospitality" to our friends.

Hi Joule.
I am a hop and jump from beautiful Lake Moultrie
in Santee Cooper Country, Charleston had a swap
last June and I worked for 3 mo. to have plants to
swap, I got sick the week of the swap and couldn't
go. I hope they have it again.

Gracious, John, et al, I feel truly blessed to get such comments from you folk.

If you really feel that way and mean it, I might just organize another swap, FOR REAL, here this coming year.

The thought that all you Research Triangle folks might come down is more than enough reason -- especially since I can never seem to afford the time or money to come up to YOUR swaps!

You make me feel SOOOO happy!

Hi Cindy: Judy B here, I'm in Orangeburg. Yes, we have SC
gardeners, what we need is to get our own site going. You know the best gardeners live in S. Carolina....Shhhh, don't tell anyone.....LOL
