Crown of Thorns plants, different time, different color.

I have many Crown of Thorns plants, but some are blooming different color at different time. Here are 2 pots for example. Both colors are pretty, but you can tell by the date in the pictures.

Does your Crown of Thorns plants do that too?

Closer look at the blooms, they are more red and so many dots. The color is more deep. Only over a month different.

The one I have from a cutting from Florida was from a huge plant with big bright red blooms, but this is what they look like now...

Whatever the color, I think it's beautiful. I've had a very small one for a few years, I thought it was dead but didn't want to get rid of it. It gave me a few small flowers this year. I still have hope.

Gorgeous! I've never seen such an awesome collection of different kinds all in one place! They're just lovely. A friend of mine has the cutest little Crown of Thorns, which she neglects like crazy. And still, it rewards her with little red flowers all year round! That was the first time I'd seen that plant. I've found a seller on eBay who has both of the kinds I've been looking for: one with tiny red flowers, and one with larger creamy yellow flowers. I'm traveling a bit over the next month, but once I'm home for good, they're MINE. :)

Those are awesome! And you weren't kidding about having some potted plants! I'm absolutely in awe of your collection, because up here in Wisconsin, those plants don't perform all that well with our 6 month winters. Gotta love our nanny state government huh? Same with my plant - red flowers are 'leftovers' from being outside, light pink are new, since plant has been brought in. It is in best sun I can provide - unobstructed south-facing windows. Still not enough... But I still like them. This COT is getting too tall, there are 3 stems, tallest one is 48" from the soil to top of the flowers. I would like to shorten it up, but not sure about cutting it. And it flowers non stop. Rina

short answer ... yes .... go to the hosta library .... above the first pic of a plant.. is myhosta.net link.. hit it.. usually you can find the heritage of a plant... mom and dad ... and trace back thru the generations... and you will find that there are something like 20 species.. and they all come up at differing times ... so.. its all in the genes ... some extremely early .. some late.. most in the middle.. and a few weirdos like montana [discussed above] that come up.. go figure on this.. early and late... which never seemed right to me... something wrong with that logic ... or .. in the alternative... just accept the simple answer .. YES!! have a great day .... its crummy here .. cold and rainy.. and dont get me wrong.. that is a mile beyond snow and ice.. lol ... ken

My Mother has a yellow one that she just stated today is "blooming its head off." I'll take a photo when I can.

Hello!

Yes, I have noticed this very thing on one of my plants in particular. During the Winter, the bracts are pure yellow, but during the Summer there is a pinkish tinge to the outside of the bract with yellow in the center.

I bought a yellow one a few years ago,and it had a lot of blooms.It still has lots of blooms,but now they are more peachy colored,they keep bloominh though,so i'm happy.

Kathi, COT slightly changes the color because the bees.
If you have more than one COT sit right next to each other and many bees around, the color will change.
