Comments (16)Jojo..Doesn't the mix Josh speaks of sound so delicious? lol Reall! My C.C, T.C, all my Hoya's and many other epethites , is that how you spell that? Oh yes, many of my orchid and most of my houseplants LOVE this mix! I think you said something about being worried about having to water more often in the heat? Have you seen how HOT the temps can get where Josh lives? I have never been that hot here, and he seems to do just fine. Rhizo, you crack me up..lol Wishing everyone a Happier New Year or just as good as the last! It's 30 degrees here and already dark and cloudy at 4 p.m. So depressing. I was really hoping my plants would at least get a few minutes of sun today. Not:-( Mom send you an extra ton of love Jojo and wishes all the best for Mike too. You have been such an awesome friend after all these years. Ooh, one more thing Jojo...Take a look at what the mix could look like. I'll link you. It's 5 parts bark, one part pumice, and one part perlite. Josh thanks pal. Comments (32)I have two hanging cactus plants that I would like to identify. The plants resemble Christmas etc only one has very large leaves and blooms with tiny little pale yellow blooms all around the leaf at each point. the other has smaller twisted leaf with a yellow bloom at the end of a stem and then a round bulbus growth in it's place. I can take pictures of them as they are now, but lost pictures of the blooms when my computer crashed. Thanks for any help you can give....See MoreDaylily seeds sprouting in pod. What to do?
Comments (3)lisa_3: I had the same issue come up last year with Substantial Evidence (this year was too crazy hot during bloom season for it to set seed)--about 1/2 of the seeds had germinated in the pod. I planted the sprouted seeds immediately and they proved to be viable and grew all winter long before being planted this past spring. The remaining, ungerminated seed got thrown into a baggie with plain water (no H2O2) in the fridge for three weeks and then planted, still ungerminated. Most of those also sprouted and grew. I'm thinking the pod germinating is just another quirky thing about Substantial Evidence and its offspring, although I haven't yet grown out seed from any other members in the line off of my own plants. I have bought seeds out of Pigment of the Imagination, but those behaved like any other seeds--come to think of it, the pod parent was a Faulkner seedling rather than POTI....See MoreHoliday cactus from Grandma
Comments (6)Holiday cacti are technically cactus, they're just not desert cactus. I like to have mine in a looser mix than just regular potting soil--quite a bit of bark and perlite. I wanted to start over with some of mine and have rooted four sets of three cuttings since winter and they're growing like mad in that soil mix. Most of them are two segments each, but some were just one and a couple were three. I don't know if the number of segments makes a difference, but I've heard from unreliable sources that they shouldn't have a lot of branching off the segment that will be rooted. I would ask for multiple cuttings like Rob wrote and take socks' advice. I generally rotted 1 out of 4 cuttings because they were a little too wet too soon (I'm guessing), having watered them lightly right away, even though in a very porous mix. It was also rather cool where they were. So I had four segments from each plant and ended up with three of each, which will eventually make for a decent sized 'plant' after they grow and ramify....See Moreaseedisapromise
