African spider plant repels spider mites on roses
Comments (10)I remember seeing this post or one similar to it a few months ago, and I did a bit of research, but I think that the African Spider Plant is NOT the one that most of us have grown as house plants at some point, and I also think that the number of them that would have to be planted in/around/among the canes of the rose would be an impossible and improbable task. The facts are correct (thank you Henry), but the implementation isn't actually going to do any of us much good.... IF I remember correctly, and now (I know I should have done it before I started this post) I'm going to trot off and do that research again.... Susan...See MoreWhat's the best thing to use against spider mites on indoor palms
Comments (16)All of those methods may work but even if you kill them off you still have a nasty film on the leaves. Unless you have a palm so big and heavey you cant move it, it only makes sence to take it out for the summer. months of rain really clean it up. In addition you will get your strongest growth out of it. I have a double roebi that has about a foot of trunk and is ablut 2.5 feet overall. They were languishing in a grocery store parking lot when I got them last October for 8 bucks. I had to cut off quite a bit of the fronds as it was pot bound, under-watered, and getting no sun. I repotted it and it made a SLOW comeback over the winter. It's been outside in full sun since the first week of May and it looks good as new. it has already become one of my most attractive palms....See MoreWhats the best preventative for spider mites?
Comments (7)Hey Andrew: You mention you are going to make some gritty mix--and we had on this forum that long thread about potting media earlier this summer that I believe you started... I don't know which recipe you're planning to use, but just in case this info would be of use to you or anyone else reading this on the East Coast: I found on eBay a seller in Arizona who sells horticultural pumice in 3 different sizes (easy to find through a search for the same). I had read on this forum many times that pumice was not available out East, so I thought it would be useful to let everyone know that we Easterners can get it! I just got a package of it--wasn't super-cheap, but not terribly expensive either. I also found sequoia bark fines at my local orchid supply store, which is pretty close to what Turf-n-Tee is...and I know Kellogg Big R would be impossible to find in Florida, but I think Jungle Growth Tree and Shrub from Lowe's is a fairly close, high-quality substitute... So, after many months of wishing beyond hope that I could make Jack Morgan's/Bill's mix, my dream is a reality! Oh the drainage! LOL Take it for what it's worth, Andrew. Just thought maybe you and others would like to know... Greg...See MoreBest treatment for spider mites?
Comments (7)Thanks very much, Nil. You've used these specifically on mites, right? (Just want to be sure.) I will treat the plants thoroughly. I wouldn't want to make this destructive little bug any nastier than it already is....See MorePlanterRic
