Jimmyjojo: There is a Seedy Saturday event in Ottawa - but I am afraid that businesses have taken over, very few if any "folks" bringing seeds to trade. I went a few years ago with some heirloom seeds (after spending hours packaging and labelling) but found that I was the only non-commercial person there. Disappointing!

Most Seedy Saturdays have an exchang table where you can trade seeds. In Ottawa we have a table set up with a couple of volunteers, the vendors (all small seed companies)suply seeds to start with, when the public comes they can trade what they have with anything already out on tha table. Toronto is simlar, just bigger

A couple of years ago I took in both Toronto and Oshawa location and was disaapointed that both were geared towards retail sales. I've heard that RBG does set up swap tables, where you replace what you take. Pickering is having one this year with plans of swap tables, some retail and how to sessions through out the day.

It's up to the organizers of Seedy Saturdays to be vigilant in maintaining public seed trading as the corner stone of these events. Otherwise Retail will take over and completely push out public trading altogether. When that happens the bigger retailers push out the smaller ones and at the end all you have left is a Wal-Mart.

Greta, if you are an organizer don't lose sight of the real reason behind Seedy Saturdays, Diversity and public participation.

Looks like they already have become too commercial as it is.
