Congratulations...it's almost like having your first baby!!! I too have a WS viola blooming it's little head off now - started in the container, but the surprise is the seed packet said Geum Mrs. Bradshaw!!! I've never had violas but they are very cute and easy to grow. I just might try some next year for my little pots.

Hmmmm ... I guess it may depend on location, since some of the ones people have listed as NOT blooming the first year have bloomed in their first year for me - Dianthus, Asclepias, and Rudbeckia. I did have to wait for the following: Aquilegia Belamcanda chinensis (Blackberry Lily) Echinacea Geum Shasta Daisy Gaillardia Kniphofia Penstemon Hey, after looking at snow for two months or more, I'm happy to look at some green, blooms are just icing on the cake! Just_me: Last year was my first year, and I put my containers in several spots, some being in full sun, just to see what worked best. The containers didn't care where they were, they all grew equally. The only difference I found was that the ones in full sun dried out a lot quicker, and if I didn't either take the top off during the day if it got too warm they fried. I too would wait until they get their first true leaves. They will be a little stronger come plant out time. Good luck!

Thanks All for the nice comments : ) Maggie, I just planted the celosia in different locations and almost forgot about them. They sat there all summer very small. Then all the sudden they started growing. I was very surprised about the side shoot flowers too. But I didn't know much of what they were suppose to look like, lol. Last fall, I just posted I wanted Giant Celosia(I read somewhere that certain varieties got large), and I received them in trade without a description. They are still growing by the way! Highalt..., I grew them for the first time this year. I got the seeds last fall in a trade. They were so easy to grow, no special treatment at all. As soon as it is safe for you, you need to grow some! Remy

Nice! Can't wait to try that Cuphea that you sent...ooo la la! I previously ordered some Cuphea ignea from Value Seeds about 3 mos. ago, but they called it Cigar Plant Matchless..flowers look like little cigars or fireworks. They look soooooooo very different. Now if you look at the Bat-faced Cuphea (C. llavea) at the plantsdatabase.com it looks a lot different than yours even! They REALLY look like bats.... yours are much prettier in my opinion! How exciting LOL! I tried that Cypress Vine this year too, but they didn't grow at all...stopping at 1.5'.
