should i even bother with broccoli/cabbage now?

hey there!

ok, i started my "all season" broccoli and "pixie" cabbage seeds (from renee's seeds) a few weeks ago indoors, then moved them outside (properly hardened off) and transplanted into my raised beds on thursday. i covered them loosely with row covers to protect from some particularly vicious birds and squirrels.

after a long day at my daughters track meet, i get home to find almost all my transplants fried! it was unexpectedly warmer (downright hot really) than was expected/predicted. i had watered in the morning, and raised the row cover while still protecting them from the sun, but didn't seem to matter.

so at this stage in the game, should i even bother? i can put them under lights and they'll sprout within 3 days like that, and get to about 2-3 inches within 2 weeks - but should i even bother??

the broccoli says to sow from feb-april and july-aug for mild winter areas. is that reasonable?

thanks for your input, it's appreciated as always.

warmly,

angela :)
