Well, there are hybridizers working very hard to come up with one that most of us can grow in our summer heat! Perhaps sooner than we think- look how fast you get results with brug hybridizing! Quite often the first year, they bloom!

Oh, that does look nice. Maybe in Canada, it would do well. I wonder if the colour of those blooms has been modified with a photo enhancer. Neat colour.

Barry that seller lists them on his site but I've never actually seen him auction one off. He does have some great stuff (most of it from Strybing probably) but his auctions go way too high. I've gotten several of the plants he's offered from other sellers for a quarter of what his go for. If he ever does list the vulcanicola I'd bid though.

I have 2 of these vulcanicolas. Both are handling the So. Cal. heat without any signs of wilting. They don't seem to be as vulnerable as people think they are.
Mind you they won't bloom until the winter here. I have well rooted cuttings from two different plants. One is completely virused. I have placed this one in full sun for the past few days and all of the new growth is starting to come out looking normal.
Strange wonderful things sold one on ebay in January '07. It sold for $450.00
It is not a 'true' vulcanicola but appears to be a vulcanicola sanguinea hybrid.
I will be crossing it with my very heat tolerant sanguinea this fall. This should prove to get us closer to a heat flowering sanguinea.

iiiitara good luck with the cross. I'd love to see pics of your vulcanicola if it blooms this winter. SWT does sell some great hard to find plants but I'm always surprised at the prices his auctions fetch. He's auctioned off several impatiens and puya varieties that have sold for outrageous prices. I've purchased the same varieties from other nurseries or individuals for a fraction of what his auctions go for.

I started some new sanguineas earlier this year and even though they don't love the high heat and humidity they look pretty good. They are responding to the temps much better then my older sangs. Last season pretty much did them in.

My Sang is doing really well too. It has complete dappled sun to shade from noon on. With the long cool Autumns here, I hope to see it flower.

Hi iiiitara, do you have access to cuttings of a virus-free plant? I'm working with Rich Sander's Sanguinea Project & have been looking for this plant for awhile.
