what to do with the gigantic clump of rhizomes?

I planted last year a couple of canna rhizomes (Richard Wallace) and they turned out to be these gorgeous, huge plants with amazing yellow flowers. When I dug them out in the fall, instead of the decent sized rhizomes, some gigantic clump came out. I let the dirt dry and stored them in the basement. Now I took them out of the dark, gave them a good soaking and left them outside to enjoy the sun. From this point I donÂt really know what to do. Should I plant the whole thing or try to break it in several smaller pieces? I liked them very much last year and would hate to damage them So could somebody tell me what to do?
