There are no tents; just leaf damage and lots of it. There are tent caterpillars in the area, of course, but they seem to come on later in the summer. Maybe these are young caterpillars? They're, at most, 2" in length. They also don't seem as fuzzy as the tent caterpillars I've seen.

LOL...tracey, I found one of these under the Milkweed when I was cleaning up the butterfly garden day before yesterday! I put it on a dish and ran to get laptop to see what treasure I might have. Dagger Moth...not exactly the Luna Moth or some other beautious type I was hoping for...LOL. By the time I'd identified him he'd hightailed it out of the dish for parts unknown! We've got a lot of Locust and Maple trees which are a couple of their host trees from what I found out. The Locust trees shed all their yellowed leaves right into the butterfly garden. :(

Eeeewww, Gillian......I looked at the website you mentioned. I sure wish they didn't show such swarms of them ! I searched the pictures for my caterpillar, and didn't find it yet. I took a better look at the darn thing, cut the stem of the lily ( one I don't like anyway) and double bagged it and threw it in the garbage. I don't think I have the stomach to look again on that website or any others for a while. I guess I can do without knowing what it was. Thank goodness cashews are high in calories and not something a person really "needs" to eat to survive, as I doubt I'll be eating any of them anytime soon now, LOL! My stomach hurts. My "ick factor" tolerance is pretty low. Konrad - If you do a thread on caterpillars, please put a subject matter warning in your first post =:) I don't think I'll appreciate your pictures of them like I do all your other pictures =:)
