ID two succulents purchased from Amish?

My mom and I visited our favorite local Amish greenhouse today to but plants, and I could not pass up these succulents! They actually have a TON of unlabeled cacti and succulents in one section of the greenhouse. Literally piles of them just sitting around waiting for a pot, "not for sale" sections that are just starting out, and a whole bunch even flowering! I'm really having to resist going back and getting more, since I don't have a great place in my house for succulents. They were each only $2.50! They had some large jades for sale as well.

Anyway...these are the two I walked away with, but I'd like an ID so I can find out more about them. The spotted one on the right has very small green flowers and some purple bulb-looking things on the bottom (so I guess it's a bulb?). The one on the left really looks like an evergreen and seems to have a trailing habit. I assume these are both non-hardy in z7A. Any ideas on an ID?? Google was no help. I have better pics on my camera. This was taken quickly with my phone.

Looks like Crassula muscosa and Ledebouria socialis. I haven't grown the Crassula, but the Ledebouria is pretty easy to care for. It will grow new bulbs quickly.

Pen's spot on - the Crassula also goes by the name of C. lycopodiodes, and it's as easy as any Crassula there is.

Your assumption on hardiness is correct - these plants will handle lower temps, and possibly to freezing (if they're absolutely dry), but I wouldn't suggest it. Grow them as you would any regular succulent.

Hi there, More important than what they are is the way they're planted. Sorry to greet you w/ this, but their pots are too big for them & your soil is too dense, too soilish looking, needs more particle matter for faster draining, should have at least 30-40% perlite or pumice. Not trying to bum you out, but the combination of the two conditions (wrong soil & too big a pot) are likely to lead these plants to rot. Strictly guessing, hard to tell from the pix, addt'l shots from above or other angles would help. Offhand I'd suggest on the left, some kind of leggy Crassula that needs more light; on the right maybe Graptopetalum paraguayense. Both will need as much sun as you can provide (expose them gradually to protect from sunburn).

I did some research and with some help from another forum found that the 2nd pic is of Crassula Tetragona and the 3rd pic is of Crassula portulacaria afra. The 4th pic might be of the same plant, I cannot remember if it came from the same plant as the portulacaria but it is the same size. I still cannot figure out what the first plant is though. I believe I might go looking for more local nurseries to haunt tomorrow!:)

Hi Borrego and Fred,,,,Borrego, nope, not Home Depot or such, more so I buy them at the swapmeet. Seller seems to have a decent variety of plants at a fair price ---- now the varigated Aloe, a very good friend who got me hooked on succulents gave me that plant, bless her heart,,,she told me it is Aloe nobilis v. variegata. And Mr. Fred,,,ring the bell, I think you ID'ed another one for me :-) I looked up Euphorbia Ferrox via Google images, and sure enough, there's a plant that matches mine almost perfectly. Two green thumbs up for you [again]!! You're on a roll.... And thanks for words Fred, but like I say, wish I could take credit for them/their beauty, but all I duz iz buyz themz...

So I did some research myself and I think the last two are Echeveria Black Prince, and Echeveria Lola. The black prince though seems to have a lighter color than expected, so I need to place it with lots of light. The first one I think is a sedum, but not yet figured out which species.

I infer there is more than one Amish nursery - I didn't know that, and it makes me want to go to PD country even more. Succulents and scrapple, who could ask for anything more?

Ledebourias need watered a bit more than other succulents. Usually the bulbs will start looking a bit wrinkly when they want water. I think I water mine about one a week.

Also they tend to spread a lot so keep it centered in the pot so it doesn't try to offset into the sides of said pot.

The one on the left is now called a muscosa, Ledbouria is a fun bulb, but not to exciting, the have sweet dainty little bell like flowers on a stems about 7" high easy to grow, they grow like gladolia, going dormant, and droping thier leafes when they go domant. Some are exremely expensive $ 45 plus dollars several cheaper and are not big nor showy. The muscosa may come in 10 forms. its an easy plant great for dishgardens. love some filtered ligh, and not straiht sun. Norma

Thanks, guys! I knew gardenweb would come through! Sounds like these will do OK with the light I get in my kitchen.

cactusmcharris - There are just about as many Amish greenhouses here as there are Amish families (and Mennonite - they tend to get lumped together). But what the heck is 'PD country'? I'm in southern MD.

This greenhouse also has a GIANT agave growing in one greenhouse, which is pretty cool since they are definitely not hardy here outside of a greenhouse!

Jen, lucky you..I've never been to an Amish anything, let alone green house.

Your Ledbouria is lovely. I have 3, one quite old, the other two were freebies w/orders, one or two bulbs per pot.
The spots on your Ledbouria are beautiful.

One thing I suggest..Ledbouria does well in shallow pots. Their roots are short, so when new bulbs form they tend to spread wide instead of deep. Very nice..Wish I could go. lol. Toni

I believe PD refers to Pennsylvania Dutch country, Lancaster, PA & around there. It's also some beautiful countryside.

Nice plants, good luck w/ them.
