My first thought was Camellia sasanqua 'Cotton Candy'. I don't suppose you could post a picture with a clearer view of the leaves? In that photo, they look rather dark, but I can't really gauge the size. If the plant blooms in autumn, and puts on quite a show for 3-5 weeks, it's probably a sasanqua. Japonicas are less likely to bloom all at once, and their flowering season generally goes on for months, not just a few weeks... Also, sasanqua flowers tend to 'shatter' as they drop, while japonicas will usually drop the whole flower at one time rather than petal by petal. Sasanquas tend to have smaller leaves than japonicas, and often sasanqua leaves are darker, although leaf size is probably a better indicator. Length of bloom season is the best criterion, although japonicas can have their seasons cut short by cold snaps. Cold snaps are probably not such a problem in Zone 10, though...

I'm seeing flower buds on some of my camellias already... 'Tick Tock' and 'Miss Charleston' for sure, but I haven't looked at my other plants. Anyone who is interested in planting camellia seeds to see what comes up, now is the time to start looking for the seed pods. Some people say you should wait until the pods start to crack open while on the plant, but I can say from personal experience that you don't need to wait that long. I had a very good germination rate picking unopened seed pods, prying them open without damaging the seeds, then planting many seeds in large nursery pots in dirt that was very rich in organic material... Don't let the dirt dry out, but otherwise you can ignore it until you've got a pot that's crowded with camellia seedlings. Virginia

Sounds like the branch is producing a sport, probably related to its ancestors. It is usually limited in scope (a branch for example). You can prune the branch if it bothers you. I had the same thing happen with Eleanor McCown (sp?). EM is supposed to produce white blooms with pink stripes. While still young (2-3 years old?), one branch started producing blooms that were all white, all pink, etc. I decided to let it be and see how it progressed but, sigh, my dogs had to remove the plant because it was in the middle of a "large interstate highway between them and the squirrels favorite hangout". Hee hee hee! They stomped on it and broke the main trunk in half. Oh well. I have waited to see if the local nursery brings this plant back for sale to see if it does the same thing or not. I would not mind if it did because it looked nice and unusual.

It is a new shrub that is not established yet. It may need water and its still small root system cannot uptake as much water and as fast as needed. The lack of internal water causes weak internal pressure in the veins. As a result, they limp. Limp or sagging leaves/flowers could thus indicate a need for water or they could indicate windy conditions that make leaves transpire faster than the roots can absorb water.
