Help! I think my my Camellia is dead?

We pruned the bush in October and the bush has still yet to grow one leaf? I am scared that my husband killed the plant, but I can't tell? I figured now that it is Spring, it would have some growth. I don't want to dig it up if it's not dead, but I don't know? Help!

How much pruning are you talking about? Does it have any leaves now?

Some of my early blooming japonicas decided to bloom, sleep and start finishing their bloomage now. I have not noticed new leaves opening here yet so you may just want to wait and continue watering to keep the soil as evenly moist as possible. I fertilize later this month; if you think there may be a problem, do not fertilize now as stressed plants should not be fertilized.

they can be slow to recover from heavy pruning. give it some time, scratch the outer layer of the stems and look for green underneath. if green, it is alive. i have pruned a couple of plants back to practically bare stems after some damage from home renovations and they did not flower for a few years.

I agree dchall, I have never seen seed that didn't have some percentage of germination, but you didn't answer the implied question: Under ideal temperature and moisture conditions, why wouldn't at least some seed germinate? Based on the OP's post, soil contact for moisture maintenance is not an issue as the OP mixed some seed into the soil and spread some on top. Edit. Just an afterthought. Oh my! I think they are dead! Please help!

The first nesting this year the female laid 5 eggs, 3 hatched the same day, the other 2 eggs sometime later. Needless to say the last 2 babies were behind the other 3. The first 3 fledged on time and the last 2 fledged 2 and 3 days after the first 3. I thought something was wrong too, as I didn't see the parents at the box, but when I wasn't looking, they had been feeding the last 2 babies. All 5 fledged just fine. I would keep checking on the babies in the box, If they are still alive, the parents have not forgotten them, and hopefully the were just behind in hatching as mine were and they will fledge later. The peace lily is not a lily, it's true name is spathiphyllum. Try posting in houseplants. I have several of them. I do think it was too much water. I "saved" one by taking it out of the pot and letting the rootball dry for a few days. It never did look really good afterward, though.

I would consider that... after waiting a while to see if leaves sprout back. Then, if no leaves grow back after Spring, I would prune in 1/2" increments until I see green. Some people use their nails to remove the cambium(sp.?) layer and see if they detect green but, eh, I just wait. Was it winter damage that killed the leaves? Uneven watering? I noticed on the right of the picture a source of rain water that could dump lots of water at times. Be careful it does not get flooded such that the soil gets periods of wet, dry, wet.
