Farewell, my lovelies...

We released one cabbage white. Then we were surprised by 15 tiny cats living in our cage. They eat mustard like the cabbage white did but we do not know what they are. They are not cabbage whites.

I'm surprised the Monarchs outnumber the BSTs 2:1! Wow, I thought there were more BSTs around than Monarchs, but that's great!

I have a bunch of them pupating (BSTs), a bunch getting ready, and a bunch of middle-size, and a bunch of babies. Everytime I change their food they get upset - poor darlings. I'm getting used to the fragrance, though!

You're right, Sherry. I've released 14 myself since Thursday. It's getting more and more busy. I'll probably start the new post with Wednesday's count.

I found scads of Sulfur eggs on my cassia. I collected them as they are getting eaten as soon as or before they hatch. So I'll have some of those to release soon.

My cardinal plants are really putting on the show this year, and the Cloudless Sulfurs are visiting them. Did your Cardinal Lobelia make it? If you'd like some seed or a start of mine, I'd be glad to share. I've got it coming up all over the place, including a dry spot in the sun! This is hardy stuff--almost invasive.

First Gulf Frit was spotted near here yesterday, so they're on their way!

No, Sandy, mine never came up. :( I'm sure the cloudless sulphurs would love them if I had any, since they like red flowers so much. I've been seeing female cloudless sulphurs in my garden, nectaring on (red) turk's cap mostly. I've found lots of new eggs, so hopefully I'll get my usual late summer, early fall cloudless sulphur cats pretty soon. There are still plenty of sleepy oranges and little yellows on the cassias out there, but I rarely ever bring one in to raise. I've quite bringing in the gulf frits, because they've gotten so numerous it's mind boggling! There are also loads of long-tail skippers on my beans that I've left on the vines for the same reason.
Congrats on your first gulf frit - they may be common, but I love having clouds of bright orange butterflies out there - I still marvel at their beauty!
