Swallowtail cats pupate too soon - please help!

I currently have 6 black swallowtail cats in my care inside. Three pupated after they had reached the 5th instar just fine, but the other three pupated at more like the 3rd instar. Why? Does it have to do with temperature or lack of food? I put fresh dill and fennel in their enclosures everyday, but on the last day before they pupated, I noticed that they had eaten everything in sight. I also wondered if the temp in the room I'm keeping them in had anything to do with it? I blocked off the air vent in there to keep the room from getting as cold as the rest of the house, but it is still MUCH cooler than the 90 degrees outside.

Secondly, I'm wondering what will happen? Should I take them back outside into the heat? Will they emerge before 6 months is up? In 6 monnts it will be January and probably no way they will survive inside until it gets warm enough to release them. Please help!
