Problems with Hoodia gordonii

beelzebub

I have problems overwintering Hoodia gordonii. Last winter and this winter a few individuals became infested with dry root rot (phytophtora or fusarium?). This winter I kept them completely dry at around 15 °C (59 °F), used some additional light occasionally (high pressure sodium, 600 w). The growing medium is a free draining mix of cactus potting compost, coarse sand, pumice and perlite. They spent the summer months outdoors with my other succulents in a sunny location with some protection from rain and thrived. When I checked the plants a few weeks ago I found that two of them were suffering from dry root rot in an early stage. Fortunately, I suceeded in making cuttings from the affected plants.

Can anyone advise on how to keep the fungus away and how to grow (and particularly overwinter) this plant successfully? Grafting? Keep indoors behind glass all year round? Change the growing medium? Use fungicides? Etc.

Thanks.
