Some one came to inspect my plants in the shade house today - I found him busy with my most expensive plant, Neo David & Sherlette:

He's a very cool little guy Japie, and he's even taken on the variegated colouration. Your 2nd pic is excellent, showing amazing detail of your visitor.

Toni, the ants are usually crowded inside the nests but "pour out" if the nest's disturbed in any way. It's a good trick to always be in the lead when hiking here. The first person to brush past a nest gets them out and the next person brushing past gets covered in them. It's funny watching someone desperately trying to get a backpack off along with clothing to get rid of the ants. I've provided that sort of "amusement" many times for my walking companions, as they have for me. No one really takes it seriously, apart from the ants. I don't keep any plants indoors at home, they stay out all year. But no matter how much you try, there's always all sorts of bugs and spiders getting into the house, they don't wait for transportation by pot plants. A lot of spiders live in the soil, some near the surface but others burrow deeper. Generally I don't worry about them, I'm more interested in what they are rather than where they are. Over the years I've found spiders, scorpions and centipedes in my bed, but I just evict them. They can go buy their own bed, LOL. Horti, that's interesting about the Harvester Butterfly. Butterflies aren't usually associated with being carnivores, but yet there are are dining quietly away. What happens when one visitor to the garden meets another visitor to the garden?

Oh Jane, I don’t know about the towel bar, I’m more concerned that you’re letting strangers into your home. I just don’t think of that as wise. (Sorry, but it’s true). When it comes to the people you hire, I think that maybe some of your own perspectives about the transactions may be part of the problem. For example, it’s not your job to make the construction workers experience a “positive” one. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not about being rude or inconsiderate, we should always treat the folks we hire with respect, offer a drink and/or use of the facilities. However, doing a good job is what they are hired to do, breaking something or not doing it 100% correctly, is not. Hard work? Sure, but that’s their chosen profession and they know what the demands are, empathy should have nothing to do with the outcome. There has to be a good balance between, nice and assertive. IMO, your attempts to be nice and even rationalize their inadequacies, has gotten in the way of the end goal. When the tiler tiled beyond the point of where he was supposed to stop. Being nice and good at the job means nothing if it was done wrong. You should have absolutely made him fix it before you gave him the final payment. Regarding the deck. I’m sorry but I’m not buying into the idea that the vibrations of a power saw would contribute to the demise of your deck. Just my opinion, but I’m more inclined to believe that original install was most likely flawed. Cudo’s for installing your own though. I don’t hoover, but I’ve also never assumed some construction guy will treat our home with the care we do. It’s important to be present, ask questions, check things out before they leave and insist something wrong be corrected. And as a helpful tool, I also learn everything I can about the process of the work so I can tell if it’s being done right (and question when it isn’t). The only bad experience I’ve had so far is when our contractor’s helper was sanding drywall over our relatively new carpet upstairs. When I saw him, I went to the contractor who was downstairs and casually thanked him for the new carpet he was going to be installing for free (because mine was now covered in drywall dust and construction crap!). He ran upstairs and there was a lot of yelling but the mess was cleaned and tarps were down within minutes. However, the next day, he forgot the tarps. When I told him, no tarpies, no workie, he bought some at the store to use. He was not happy, but that wasn’t my problem. We have a crew coming in a week or so to polish and seal some of our stone. While the estimator was going over what they expected from us, I took the opportunity for him to note what’s expected from them as well on the contract. IE that if the crew showed up without tarps, they would be turned away at their own cost. Schoolhouse, if that flooring guy had done that with me, I probably would have suggested he come back another time or that I find someone else to do the job. That was totally unprofessional on his part. I don’t know if I’d trust him to still do a good job and I’d let him know that. Just curious, if he had to buy new, did he acclimate the new boards before installing them?

No worries........I'm definitely not going to encourage him/her. He peaked through a hole in the deck yesterday and I ran out and scared him/her. I read that sprinkling ammonia around might discourage him........or maybe fox urine, etc. I have a solar charger with electric fencing around my garden. The warning light was flashing this morning and I rushed to Tractor Supply to buy another battery. So that's up and working again. I learned my lesson awhile back when I think raccoons climbed over the un-electrified fence and ruined a lot of my tomatoes. It's a real pain to have to do so much protecting.......but hey.......we're all hungry, right? :)

Your skipper is a butterfly and not a moth. The beetle could be any in the genus Osmoderma, It is certainly one of the scarabs known commonly as a fruit or flower chafer.

Ha! I wouldn't have thought any chameleon could take on the colors of those Neos, but he's managed it. What color are his stripes when he's sitting on something else?

I think the little booger is a keeper. Both are beautiful and I have to agree with all the others. Your photography work is great!

I would think she's in there filling up on BUGS. HDD if we're going to wear it as earrings we need a pair. LOL

Lisa, when they are on green plants, they usually have a lime green colour with a lemon yellow stripe down the sides.

HDD, wonderful idea, I am just not so sure the little guy will be content hanging there on your ear without climbing to sit on top of your head!!

And yes, Kerry, they eat only insects. You should see them catching flies! They have looooong tongues rolled up in their mouths and then they shoot it out with lightning fast speed, contrary to all their movements, to catch it's prey. And they move so slow and gentle that they cannot damage anything!

Sander, dis tog so n mooi woord vir my, n mannetjie wat kan verkleur!

And something completely off topic now, I just had a nice, long bath with jets of bubbles messaging my tired body that played Garden Maid this whole day and this is the view I had from the bath:

I'm packing my bags right now HDD, for the trip. Do you want me to take the stop over flight to Houston and meet you there? We could fly to Japie's together, and who knows, maybe come home with some new plants and new earrings! LOL

Just incase anyone else was curious, Japie's little friend is most probably a subspecies of Bradypodion pumilum, sporting a racing stripe of course.

Hi Guys

Japie Loveley sunset!

We had similar little guys in Port Elizabeth when I lived there....Cape dwarf chameleons? The colours were slightly different.....Here (KZN province) the introduced pest, the Indian mynah bird has decimated our local chameleon species...though I have had a few in my garden the "bush" is thick enough and green enough to hide them very well.

Now see pic below....I had a visitor of my own...LOL

Oh, I like him, Dennis! He doesn't seem to be blending in very well though. Time to start breeding some blue and orange Neos.

BTW, what is that he's sitting on, correia-araujoi A-M? It has much better color than the one I saw in Florida.
