Ok, This one is called Fire cracker cacti and it's not really on fire but it sure looks like it is, I know it has another name but it has escaped my memory I know as soon as I press SUBMIT it will come to me LOL...

Brodyjames, Omg I was trying to remember what it was thank you, I knew it was called something else but it was not regstering , I think its also called "sticks on fire." But the one you mentioned is the real name, :) thanks

So i have researched the chinese pistache tree and it is incredibly beautiful with its fall/ winter colors...So now my next question is where do you buy one?!?!?! I have been all over town to different nurseries and they all tell me that they either don't know about the tree, where to find it, or even what it is. I looked at moon valley nursery, and even though they are a little pricey, they dont have it and they said that the best they could offer is the Sweetgum tree...So (1) Does ANYONE who has a Chinese Pistache know where to buy one and (2)Does anyone know about the sweetgum tree? Here's a photo of my shrubs. I've seen similar damage to BB shrubs around my small North central Iowa town. The BB on the left just got a couple of green leaves several days ago. The shrub on the right is only 33% leafed out. I'm just gonna be patient and leave them alone this summer. There is growth at the soil line which I normally would clip, but I'll let it go this year. I can always cut them down in September. Consensus of the "great minds" at the local coffee shop think it's a winter issue. We had a couple of warm days in late winter which may have "tricked" the bushes to think it was Spring. Then winter came back with some really cold polar vortex weather. One old curmudgeon called it "Fake Spring"

If you are referring to euonymus alata, please do not spread this plant in my area! I'm in the northeast U.S., where it has joined barberry and multiflora rose as the last understory shrubs of our woodland, in cahoots with deer to displace native flora.

i wish you would get rid of them also ... but.. that said ... on any shrub transplant ... every leaf is a machine to transform sunlight into energy .. when you have one with few leaves.. just leave it alone.. and allow those leaf to grow the roots to get the plant established ... and after it is established.. then you can prune it for shape and form ... pretty sure you can cut it to near the ground.. and let it regenerate into a more natural shape .. next year ... but think hard about just getting rid of them.. there are just so many better options.. i dont know why you would waste precious space with them ... bigbox is the problem with these being sold nationwide ... wish we could stop them ken

Glad you got both the names now, Greg! That is a beauty...and large too! Mine is in a pot...and like you said in the other thread, if you don't want it to grow, stick it in a pot!!

Nice! I wish my winter climate would allow me to keep such plants outdoors. Summertime is fine. We have sort of a deserty (my own made up word lol)climate...but too cold and snowy in the winter :-(

Around here they call them "fire sticks",but they're like the rose,by any other name it's still a rose,and these are fire whatever.Beautiful,no matter what they are called.I need to get me one of those.There's one i pass on my way to walmart and i swear it's 6ft easy.Didn't know they would get that big when i first saw them.Love all your plants.
