Surprise Snowflake Cyathia

Yesterday I was surprised to see my Euphorbia polygona 'Snowflake' suddenly sprouting some cyathia. I see more on the way. A nice little bolt from the blue on this former Lowe's inmate!

I like that term, Christopher, and it's nice to see it in flower....oops, do I go to the penalty box now..

Its colour resemblance to many Pilosocereus is striking. Can you imagine a backyard full of just these?

Very nice! Mine looks almost exactly like yours, minus the cyathia. It hasn't done a darn thing since I got it last year. For that matter, neither has my E. suzannae. They're definitely not dead, but they haven't done anything...not even a growth spurt.

Guess they were mismarked. Pretty common at the big box stores. But all daffodils are pretty, don't you think? By the way, there's no such thing as a truly pink daffodil... they're mostly just peachy or apricot. Still very nice, IMO.

Wow, you ladies are out in full force on this table. Luvs, thanks, I come up with surprises by pulling out some more things I haven't used before on my tables. I surprise myself at times too.lol Jane, being here is 'Unwinding Therapy' for sure. You are all so fun and witty. Frou, glad you like the bowls. They are back in their box so who knows when I'll pull them out again. I have way to many goodies around here. Nana, you can borrow these dishes anytime. Come on over and get them tomorrow if you'd like... We had Shrimp Scampi With Pasta Alfredo. Creek, maybe my DD could buy some pants for you. She buys most of mine. Kirk, can you get the pattern on here somehow, those are so cute. Would love to make some with my GK's. They have a nice large window to hang them in. Kids looks so cute & town looks friendly,you also have a great clinic in town, don't know if you know it or not!! My friends that have property up there had a serious problem when he got weak legs & your clinic there did a 1st rate job according to his dr. down here,so Norman Rockwell town with modern caring clinic where everyone was great!! Made a very scary situation much better, they thought they would have to go to Spokane when waitress told them to go to the clinic down the street! Anyway hope you can take a pic of the folded snowflake so we can cut some ourselves otherwise you may get lot of e-mails!! What do you paint them with? Thanks! Jan

Hi Judith! What a pleasant surprise to click on the forum and see your post! I don't think i've been on here for over a year, but because of the season, thought I would pop in. I hope all is well with you, or at least things are getting better~sometimes that's all we can hope for. I have to say I sure miss your posts on the decorating forum! You added so much to the overall 'flavor' of the forum. That was before it was taken over by Houzz, which took a bit getting used to. Have you finished up with your remodeling~what a daunting 'task' to take on. I'm sure those 'older' forum members who remember you would go out of their minds if you were to post! Of course pictures would be awesome, but don't want to push you. Could I beg? lol I hope you somehow see my text~maybe you will come back here. Judith, I don't think i'm speaking for myself when I say you are so missed. It would be awesome if you could find a few minutes to let us know how you are doing and fill us in on the remodeling. Yes, Jeff, I do love the colour of the E. polygona 'Snowflake' but you can see how it is like a coating on the surface, which can flake off, as is visible in the photo. The glaucous coating on blue Cereus species is a bit different to my eye.

Nancy, mine took a while to do anything, I've had it about 16 months, I had a little growth late last summer, and now these lovely little purplish-red cyathia. This was one of my better Lowe's clearance finds.

We north of the Mason Dixon Line folk just have to get used to the fact that we don't have ideal Euphorbia / Aeonium conditions, but forge on like the succulent Saracens which we are.

Christopher, no doubt that's true, and the Pilosos are, as a rule, the bluest cacti, but yours still is awfully close, in my semi-inflated colour wheel, to blue.

Thanks for that...I guess I'll have to be a little more patient. I got mine at Lowe's also. Passed it and a few "new to me" aloes on the first trip and decided I had better go back and get 'em, since I didn't know when or if I'd ever see anything like them again. Glad I did!
