That's some nice and free plantings-to-be. Yes, unfortunate to say, but that second box looks like it has nothing viable.

Nice haul! I have a handful of those myself. There's a huge patch of them on the roadside near my house.

Precisely, Ma'am. If they have stalk/stem, even without leaves, they're viable. Otherwise, not.

Just one of what ever you please. That Agave looks like Agave Americana Variegata. This one is not all that common. There is one called Agave Angustifolia Variegata that is seen everywhere in Florida. This is the one I gave away many pups of. But agaves is like many other plants, just can't give a real ID only best guess. Thanks for keeping a eye out for stuff.

They would look good next to your Agave Americanus Medio Picta Alba that I saw on your photos. Maybe you can return the favor back to CG to add to her collection when yours starts to pup? Did I say CG, I mean AG.

Stush: Same thing. :) And yes, I do believe it is A. americana var. There are quite a few on campus. I should remember to take some pictures and post them.

Stush: WOWZA! Um, yeah, that's pretty much the same kind, but not nearly that huge!

Here's a photo of some of the variegated agaves on campus, outside the Science building. These aren't the same specimens as the ones I got the pups from - I'll be able to take pics of those tomorrow when I go back to class - but off in the background you'll notice a brown building:

To the right of the building are more plants, and hidden from view behind a parked car are the actual specimens that I took the pups from. (Remember, they were already dug up/cut off; I just picked them up from lying around the base of the mother plants.)

There are at least three agaves there, maybe four (I can't quite recall).

I make the point of pointing out the distinction between the ones by the Science building and the ones I got the pups from because, as you can see, the ones by the Science building get good shade in the afternoon. The ones by the smaller, brown building (that I got the pups from) get no shade whatsoever. Full sun, all day long.

I'll have to remember to also take pics of the soil when I take pics of the plants tomorrow. Just so you know what they came from.

I do want to say that school has been keeping me fairly busy; tomorrow I have a midterm in botany, as well as due a paper and a presentation (same class). Thursday I have due for my health class 2 online discussion posts, a quiz, and a paper. So it might not be until the end of the week; but I'll let you know when they're sent out.

I have to find my picture of an agave I have from LA. We passed by a so called not so good area due to the freeway was blocked. I begged the driver to let me take a fast picture and we left the area. This plant had leaves over 12 feet long. It stood over 15 feet high. That was the biggest agave I have ever saw. It was variegated like the pups AG is giving out. As a house plant in a small pot, it should stay a nice size.

Yes Greg, It was in your neck of the woods. We visited the L. A. area around 1985. We went on all the tours and stayed a whole week. Not knowing the area, we stayed in Englewood. It was a nice hotel but the desk man would not let my wife and I out past the doors in the evening to just walk around. Said we were crazy and we would get killed. We did go out and walked down one block to a nice restaurant only to almost get stocked and attacked. Lucky we were able to duck into a nearby hotel lobby for safety. 5 men in a old car that turned around mid traffic and came up behind us. Lucky I talked my wife out of hurting them. Met some of the nicest people while there and had a very nice time.

Stush my brother you were in the Hood for crying out loud, you are very fortunate to be telling this story of walking through the Bloods & Cripts turf.

All: Midterm did not happen - sudden family emergency. Hoping prof will let me make it up. Currently working on chapter, 2 assignments, discussion post, and quiz for Health class.
