Bringing 'em in!!!

well, I've gotten away with it long enough, I guess! We are finally going down below freezing for two nights, after over 1 month of nice weather. LOL, everyone around here is groaning and my poor DIL has actually put her brugs into the ground! Mother Nature does not like to be flaunted!! Oops, there go the peaches! And the hostas! And all the other leafing out/ blooming plants that got fooled.

So, in they come, moving tonight and all day tomorrow. This is going to be interesting and might involve the dining table! And a good portion of the garage!

Most of mine are out and are staying out. I'll toss a tarp over them if below freezing temps are predicted here but they're not coming back in! I normally don't have them out this early but was so sick of having them all over the place. Not only brugs, lots of stuff. I still have quite a bit in the greenhouse that I'm not worried about.

Brenda, I wish you wonderful weather so you can just take your brugs out and leave them there until winter :-)

Yes, we have had lots. People who can last year are bringing more friends and family. Can't wait to see how many make it this year. How about your swap last year, did you have very many? I like exchanging named plants, running out of room in the yard. Although I will pick up some unnamed things if they interest me. New Gardener don't care but I put enough named things in last year so they get the idea to keep trace of their plants. I took over 70 items, every thing I could get the dirt to plant with and some non-plant items. This year for a door prize I have three things back plus I might pot up a named daylily or two. Also thought of putting a couple of fans of a named Japanese Iris, it still sells for 10 a fams on the internet. I have a dinner plate dalia about 10 inchs high I might put that in as a door prize.

Thanks Ricky, what about special needs? Like me, I will need help unloading and loading. I don't use a walker or wheelchair but do have a cane, just for security. Don't worry, I won't poke holes in your yard, I ain't that heavy, lol! Since my Cliff is not coming, I guess I am asking for anyone who would like to volunteer to help me unload and park my car for me. Sheesh I am such a wimp! Kat is granting me space under her tent. I am planning to come early and leave early so as not to be away from Dennis too long. Being there early, I will gladly help you and Karen set up tables and eating areas etc. Please ask me, I like to DO STUFF! I don't know if there are others with special needs. Thought I'd speak up and perhaps others might chime in. So looking forward to this semi annual PIG OUT! I still cannot believe there are OVER 70 people! WOW!

farmgirl01, birdhouses should not be put on fences due to the fact that raccoons can and will climb up and get the eggs/babies or adult birds that happen to be in the box at the time. Unless you are monitoring your nestboxes throughout the nestbuilding/egg laying/hatching/fledging you could not be sure if all those eggs are making it to fledging. Plus on a one acre lot you would probably only get one or two pairs of bluebirds, if you are letting HOSP nest in any of the boxes you are setting up any other cavity nesters to be killed by them. Check out sialis.org is loaded full of great information on how to properly host bluebirds and other native cavity nesting birds. Also Bluebirds don't eat birdseed, they eat insects/berries/suet, I have never been able to get them to eat suet but lots of others do, ours don't overwinter here though. A wildbird seed mix is the worst possible seed to feed your yardbirds as it attracts HOSP. When I found this site over three years ago I stopped feeding a birdseed mix and the numbers of HOSP that came to my feeders dropped dramatically. HOSP love millet and cracked corn, I feed none of this type anymore. I buy the individual bags of BOSS/Sunflower hearts/peanuts/Grey Striped Sunflower and sometimes Safflower and mix it together myself. Also have a nyjer feeder and seperate suet feeders. Donna

sooo sorry that you have to bring them back in, last year it was nice till the end of April when I had to cover all of mine that were in the ground, this year they aren't going in the ground until after Easter

Brenda I am with you. Tonight it is suppose to be like 36...tomorrow 32. So all goes in and the beds will get my bedsheets again lol NOT FUNNY anymore.

Good luck to everyone. DH said that the weatherman said that for us it will be the last cold spell. I sure hope so.

LOL Brenda I haven't seen my dining table in months... We are going to the 30's tonight and tomorrow :(.. I have most everything back in... the dang wind is already 30mph again...LOL

I hav`nt taken any brugs out yet but the hostas, daylilies
and lots of blooming trees will be out there in the cold!
Im just hopeing it wont get as cold as the weather man is
predicting!

I got home yesterday and it was 83 I got up this morning and it was 53, lol. Lugging the plants back in. So much had started blooming while I was gone. Even my flowering cherry! I hope the freeze doesn't kill all the stuff in the ground. Poor Brenda. I hope you don't hurt yourself carrying all the plants. Scares me when the weather man actually says 32 for here. They usually say 38 and it goes to 32 so no telling how low it will get if they say freezing. I want spring to stay here already!

Well Brenda.... Have ya heard what they're saying now?! Possible snow tomorrow night even in the Atlanta metro area. I moved somewhere between 600-700 plants back in this weekend. Brugs and some other stuff hadn't ever gone out thank goodness.

Yall(texan ) are a lot more dedicated than me. Only one light freeze here all winter. The wind in my nemesis here it is almost as bad as the mites. It has been 20-50 mph since February and still no rain.. We had a weak tornado also. My brugs have gone through leaves weekly.

Anyone tried the Temple Goddess from CG. It is a super brug like my fuzzy Grimaldies. Bloom all the time and laugh at the wind and mites.

And Jim, I have grown Temple Goddess and still do. I lost my first one and hunted around til I found a replacement. This one I have shared with a few folks. Highly recommended! Sorry bout your wind- seems like we all have our gardening challenges, wherever we are!

Karyn, 29 here tomorrow and Tuesday night, don't know what that will make it in Maryland! Just brrrrrrrrrrrrr, tho! It was 76 here today! Glorious!!

Thanks guys. Gotta figure out how to grow these crinums. What I thought were seed pods are sprouting, lol. I don't know if I should plant them or lay on the top. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

Yep! Always gonna have that last freeze or frost
right before Easter to screw everything up! I'll
be lugging things back to the gh and praying for
the ones in the ground! My yard is in full bloom
makes ya wanna scream! Lord have mercy. I'll be
praying for us all! Poor Dorothy was just depressed
after the weather tonite she's down in her back
and hip and now this! Hugs to you all! :)
