LOL.. I always put the left over coffee in the gallon jug of ST~seaweed mix I keep under the sink.. I believe Kristy's DH is notoris for pouring off left over coffee with great results.. I believe they are wonderful additions ~ staples of an organic program...can't go wrong there...Not sure what a mountian grow

I don't know if instant coffee would be the same as ground coffee, but I don't think it would hurt the plant so why not try it and see what happens.

Kylie, back when people used to drink instant coffee, there was a commercial for Folger's. In it, some German lady named Mrs. Olsen (I think) used to talk about the coffee being "Mountain Grown." She also referred to the flavor crystals, which are mysterious little crystal-like things in the coffee. Beats the hell out of me what they actually are. Probabaly a nuclear waste by-product, which would make a plant walk across the room and strangle you in your sleep.

Actually, "Mountain grown" and "flavor crystals" may be from two separate brands. I have no idea what I'm talking about :-)

I'll leave the seaweed question for someone who knows. I haven't ventured into that as of yet.

Not sure about tea but the coffee is acidic so I would compost it first if you are using coffee grounds. Roses, azeleas, bananas etc like acid and can handle straight coffee grounds. Liquid coffee must be a little more diluted so may not be as acidic as the straight grounds. Coffee grounds added to your compost is very beneficial and attracts earth worms etc. I also hear that slugs don't like coffee.
My grandmother used to have monster sized rose bushes that were constantly in bloom because my grandfather dumped his coffee grounds on thier rootbase every day.

How about a little alpha pellets or fish fertilizer instead of the acidy coffee grounds? You will have to use an equal lime to sweeten them back up.

Patrick: If you check on the Plumeria Forum you'll see that many folks don't advise using M.Grow on the plumies. Actually, I've had some trouble when I've used it on my Brugs, too. However, lots of people ... more experienced than Iam ... use it on their Brugs with great sucess. But I know for sure to leave it off the plumies and use another fert. Gloria

My husbands plants look great compared to mine and he has been giving them leftover coffee every morning. He slipped up and thought I wouldn't notice a couple times and poured the stuff out of his cup and got a little mold going on top of the dirt. I scaped away that and put new soil and yelled at him and it hasn't done that anymore. I had been saving the leftover grounds to put in my beds and had about a large coffe can full and he went when I wasn't looking and put a handfull in each of my pots with the brugs and they greened up nicely and started shading out the other little ones so I had to take some of them outside. The coffee fed ones don't seem to have as many pest problems either.

Forgot to mention the stuff in his cup had cream and sugar, lol.

There is some literature out there now about the use of coffee grounds as a means to eliminate mealies and scale on cycads. Apparently, the alkaloids in coffee also function as a systemic pesticide to ward off sucking critters. Can't get more "organic" than that.

I've read about benefits vs. mealies, scale and aphids. Haven't heard about mites, though.

Kristy..he put the grounds right on top of the soil and it didn't get moldy? It greened them up? hmmmm..maybe I should remove my sand, put some coffee grounds in there and then put the sand back on top.
I have a bucket on my back porch I put the grounds in, and egg shells. Mix em up every day so it doesnt get moldy..and when the bucket is almost full it gets thrown on top of the beds. Right now it has some chopped up potato peels in it too. I may have to work that batch into the soil since it's chunky.

Patrick, I always use coffee grounds in my beds, and when planting roses. I honestly can't say whether it helps or not since I have always done it. Nothing to compare it to. But it doesn't hurt that's for sure. My mother used to even take the bacon grease and oil from cooking and pour it around the bases of her roses. That's a lil too much for me, I dont have the balls to try it, lol. But she always had beautiful roses! Sorry I went on about roses.. There is a rose bush I need desperately, just dont wanna pay $20 for it..and that's without shipping. I can't stop thinking about it tho. Hmm..maybe I can get a cutting off of someone from the roses forum.

Nope, didn't get moldy but I can tell you it didn't help with the mealy bugs. I just found some underneath the leaves. I may have to spray some coffee on them. It was near 80 the last few days and going to hit the 90's tomorrow and the da@#$$ bugs are out in full force. At least I couldn't see the mites when they were here, lol.
