One more newb question I promise! Lol

I bought a brug on ebay not cheap either mind you...It is growing sideways and not up..It was sent this way...Will it grow straight? Or should I say something to the seller?

Barb funny you would post this question. I had taken a cutting from the candida double white before the frost hit. During the winter month it was SO long, longer then my arm. It was also in just a little pot. So it FELL to the side and started to grow like that. Today I planted it in a bed and planted it straight UP. I will see how the new growth does lol

Hey Moonie..Very nice Shrimp blooms. Because of all the stems, it's hard telling which is the Shrimp leaves..lol. But the flowers are very pretty. One thing I learned about Shrimp plants..they need to be pinched periodically to keep compact. Pinch first two leaves when not flowering. You can either cut back and root cuttings. Another option is looking on Ebay for small trellises. They're inexpensive. As a matter of fact, you can make your own. I bought a dozen; after seeing how they were made, felt ripped off. They used a piece of plastic, shaped in a 'U' Imagine the U upsidedown. A wire hanger would work. Same thing, only painted green. Or you can purchase actuall trellises for house plants. They too come in different sizes. If you decide to root, take several cuttings..plant some with mom, in soil, and others in water. Within a two-week period, the cuttings should start rooting. Ryan- 1st question: the one in the front is a Sabal minor "Louisiana" that I germinated in the summer of 2005. The other is a Sabal Minor "Mcuratian" (sp?) that I bought from plant delights in the summer of 2006. I'm guessing its about the same age as the other as they are about the same size. 2nd) I am going to place the pot over a flat grassless part of my yard abd let it root directly into the ground. In the fall I want to erect a greenhouse over it. I have a Filifera that is much smaller that I want to do the same to. thank you both for the kind words.

Debbie, Sure, you can use cut peices of bamboo to divide your beds into squares! just lay it on top of the soil. Go to the Square Foot Gardening official website for some ideas on how to plan your beds. Placing the taller crops on the north side will prevent them from shading the other crops too much. What kind of crops are you interested in growing? There are certain plants that "compliment" eachother. Planting them together is called "companion planting" Yes, deer will think that you have planted that garden just for their dining pleasure : ) Do a search on this and other Garden Web forums for discussions on how to keep them out. As far as I know the new growth will grow in the 'up' direction, so orient your brug as to which way you would like to be up and all new growth will go that way. If the sideways growth is still green maybe it will straighten out too.

It is so funny to look at....Dumb brug...I am gonna grow it out just to get cuttings from it otherwise I would throw in the garbage... :)

Lol, I bought a shrub like that. All it was was a stick with nothing but a little bushy side branch. I can't figure how that will ever grow into a shrub. I am letting it grow and will try to root the one little bushy branch later to be the main shrub. Its pitifully ugly. Lucy you know we are having a cold front Wednesday I hope. High in the 40's. Hope we don't end up with a sneaky freeze.

Kristy it can not be worse then the Armadillo diggin the last 2 nights in my newly planted flowerbed :-( God knows how many seedlings went to plant heaven.

Do I need to bring in anything if it is 40? Like my succulents? Citrus trees? I hope not the citrus trees. I just planted them in huge buckets lol

I have to laugh lucy We dont have amaridillos here. Just lots of squirrels and chip munks amd moles....I hope he didnt do too much damage....Kristy I am glad I am not alone on ulgy plants...hahhaha That would be a good idea for a game...The ulgiest brug...Winner takes all..LOL

I enter my Sangs. They would actually make greak bonsai's right now. I even brought them inside because I thought they will not survive the wind. Almost have a L shape lol

Ohhhhhh but I am excited because in the last 2 days the bigger seedlings are getting a HARD *woody* looking stem. And it it getting fatter. Oh this is the wrong thread. Sorry. I got carried away lol

Lol, my sang seedling looked like a vine until I put the cursed Day Dreams beside it last year and it promply died. I discovered a few days later it had mites so I guess thats what killed it.

Lucy I think it will be ok if we don't have frost which last I heard we shouldn't. Have to watch the weather and see.

Late last night they said it might get down to the upper 30s the coming night. By 11 am it is suppose to be already down to 48 F :-(

This weather is crazy!
