At least this section is beginning to have the colors I want, and fortunately all the weeds are not too evident in pictures.

Thanks everyone. I have to say it would look quite different if hubby didn't keep it weeded! Weeds are what we grow best out here! haha This year I decided to control myself and not buy any more water lilies or tropical lilies. Last year I had 2 hardy waterlilies in this stocktank pond and they were way too crowded. So now I just have 2 lily per stocktank. (I have 2 other 300 gallon tanks elsewhere in the yard). The water lilies seem to be slow this year, but its been pretty cool. The water lily in the pond is a rose arey. There is one potted, sitting at the bottom of the stocktank and the other one I just threw in there when I thinned them, and its just floating. Its sort of an experiment. I overwintered some of my waterlilies at the bottom of this pond (about 24" down), but I did use a deicer throughout the winter. I also have buried them just underground next to the house and they do fine over winter. The purple iris to the back left are siberian irises called "ruffled velvet". The pinkish purple ones to the back right are also siberian irises called "pink haze". I have 2 more varieties that haven't flowered yet. I really like siberian and japanese iris. They're so delicate-looking. The purple stuff at the front right are Dame's rocket that self seeds. The iris in the pond is a black gamecock iris. I bought it last year and its really going crazy now. I have already thinned it and put the rest in the lotus bog....which I may regret! I also have an invasive little plant (around the waterfall) called gooseneck loosestrife. I try to pull it out everywhere else, but its great for hiding the back of the waterfall. the snakes like hiding in it too. I've planted a couple hostas, coneflowers, butterfly bushes, hyssop, crocosmia, northern oats. I'm trying to attract more and more butterflies. I'm afraid I have an addiction! This spring has been the worst! On some days, I've actually gone to 4-5 nurseries! I'm just about out of room, but that doesn't seem to stop me from buying more! haha There are worse addictions, right? :)

Thanks CP.This bed is about 5x25.It runs along one edge of my Sun garden.I've been mixing Cactus,succulents and native perrenials.I only do supplemental watering during the extremely dry periods.Except of course when I'm feeding.

@jojosplants haha it sure is! I didn't grow it though...it was in one of the gardening decor package that I found at IKea @averil I see, at first I thought they weren't doing good that's why it's so easy to knock them off the stem, yes I have saved a lot of leaves they are all sitting in a propagation pot right now, I think few of them began to root! @suivezmoi thank you! Haha all I did was read this forum, watch some youtube videos (some of them would tell you it only takes 5 minutes, but that's a big fat lie haha, at least for me it took quite awhile getting everything done plus clean up..), and also google some succulent dish gardens for ideas! Good luck with your gnat problem...definitely don't overwater, the pots should be dry most of the time

Thanks for the nice comments, folks. Now I have to get to work to make the rest of the bed fit in with this. I put in a bunch of stuff a couple of years ago just to see what would work, so I didn't show you the parts that look a mess. Some things have shown they weren't made for life in the ground, while others have tried to hog all the space and smother their brethren, and a few are, alas, "no longer with us."

I'm late in posting because I needed a lot of time to digest this beautiful presentation. Perhaps someone said it earlier but I will repeat--this garden is nothing short of a work of art. If it were mine, I would never want to leave.

I agree with everyone else, it is a really lovely combination of plants - great colors and textures, and everything looks so healthy! Having said that, may I make one tiny criticism/suggestion? Lose the plastic plant labels. They're essential for collections in pots, but they really detract from the overall loveliness in a garden. Surely by now you remember what these plants are? :-)

It's just my opinion. It's a beautiful composition regardless, but that little change would make it even better.

Patrick, I really appreciate the comment about the labels. Unfortunately, I don't know the names of some of my smaller plants, and some of the labels also carry info better kept in a notebook. You are quite right, and I see that I must do something to keep the labels out of sight. Most are either in pots that I stuck in this plot temporarily so they could get more sun in the winter, or they are to mark things I put in the ground in hopes that they would do better, but there's no getting around it: the garden would look much better without them. I have a lot of labels in a small bed of haworthias and gasterias, too, and thanks to your suggestion, I will find another way to keep track of things.
