brugs in ground in tallahassee?

hi hi! I feel like I've been away forever! :P

first a story, then a question:

so I visited my father in tallahassee recently. hilarious weather - it was in the 70s, then the day after I flew down it dropped like 30 degrees and barely broke 40 for a few days and then refused to warm above 60, and then the day after I left it promptly climbed to the 80s - so if anyone here lives in florida and experienced that weather, YES, I BROUGHT THE FROSTY NORTH WITH ME, AND YES, YOU'RE WELCOME :P HAHA!

but I digress! I brought some rooted cuttings for him and potted them up and the weather got me wondering if it would be at all possible to put them in the ground there. he looks like he's in zone 8b, which I know a good number of you also seem to be. would it be a case of mulching a whole bunch (they use pine straw exclusively there), or would it be better to keep them in big pots?

what do you guys think? :)

Ria
