Beautiful plants Bob and the display is looking more natural as time goes by! We are still waiting on our bromeliad greenhouse at the Bot. gardens. Not looking like we will get it set up this year as promised. To many chiefs not enough indians, but I'm keeping an eye on your greenhouse to get ideas for ours.....someday!!

Hi gonzer,to answer your inquiry,what hdd mentioned is true,and you can see those two posts on what is now page 2 of this forum.Read'Bob & Terri-BBG photos' and 'Bob and Terri go shopping',and they will partly answer your question. I've been a volunteer there since '99,and both Terri and Don arrived on staff after that. To the best of my knowledge,there is a plant budget,and it can be used as Terri and Don wish,with the ok by the Director. The order would fit the need of the 'house'that is designed for the display of certain plant genera,and meet the goal of the 10 year remodeling plan.*[too big a topic for now].Terri and Don decide what they need to build up the house displays.My minor role is to help with the information and selection of the bromeliads,IE: who best to order from,and what are some attractive genera and species,as my experiance here saves them time in the selection process. What they eventually order is their choice,and they both have experiance in other kinds of plants,shrubs,and trees,that is not my field.[bihai would Love this project] When orders arrive,we get together to pot them up,and integrate them into the house displays. My main area to work in,is the Fern house,which you have seen my many photos of on various posts.It is here that perhaps 90% of the bromeliads are located for now. I say,'for now' because the first remodled house will be ready soon,and it will be the 'Epiphyte House'.So that will need to be designed to best illustrate all kinds of epiphytic plant life,and terestrial bromeliads as well,and most of the existing bromeliad collection will be used to furnish it.Ideas on how to best display it,are being discussed at this time,and new plant orders will help stock it.Everything ordered 'makes it to the Show'. You're right, Bob, Norman is Hannibal crossed back to Tiger. I was thinking it was an F2 of Hannibal, so that would explain the larger size. Well, let's see..... I could buy one or I could just cross the two myself next time they bloom. You guys probably thought I was joking when I said I do my own hybrids because I'm cheap. No joke, LOL Actually, I think we'll be seeing a lot of Hannibal and Tiger hybrids coming out, and a lot of them are going to start looking very similar. When something that good and that different comes along nobody can resist working with it. I picked this one up from my local neighborhood hybridizer, ostensibly HL x (Big Red x Purple Paint). Shows a lot of HL/Tiger characteristics and not much from the other side so far: Speaking of Tiger crosses, I also took this pic-- feast your eyes: No, I don't own this plant; no, it wasn't available but it didn't come from here so it must be out there somewhere; and no, I don't remember what the cross was but it's not a variegated HL.
