Either of two things can induce bloom in these plants. One is long nights, and the dark must be complete for good results. If night temperatures drop low enough - about 45 - this is also a bloom inducer. I would suggest just forgetting about blooms next year, and then next fall star early on the long night treatment.

In New Orleans I would leave these outdoors until nights were in the 30s and always got excellent blooms.

This fall leave them out side to get the cool falls temps, that induces budding for me every time. Make sure to fertilize during the year too.

leave them out like tommyr said and you will see blooms. mine stay out until just before the frist frost or before the temps get down below 32. and they all bloom

If you can't get them outside (like me who grows indoros only), leave them in a window's edge, trying not to use any additional light nearby at night. The naturally shortening days take care of setting blooms on mine (prob. also combined w/ the cold from the windows's edge).

Do the watering requirements have to change for it to bloom as well? I know that too much water when it's in bloom will tend to ruin the flowers.

I let mine get a *little* on the drier side in the fall as well.

This year was the first year that I actually watered my CC like a jungle cactus. Before that, I'd been letting it go as dry as other succulents.

I continued watering during its bloom cycle (which began in November), and it is showing its final blooms right now. You can water them during the bloom, but water less once the bloom has stopped. Give the plant a rest.

From what I've read here, changing the plant's location during bud-set or early bloom is the most detrimental to the flowers.

No, watering does not change for this to bloom. I believe the comment abt too much water when in bloom is incorrect, it's not harmful to flowers (these are tropicals, they come from places w/ fast but heavy rainstorms).

After bloom one withholds water for at least a month while the plant rests.
