Canadian Swallowtail and question: hibernaculum or parasitized?

Here's a pic of the Canadian Swallowtail (Papilio candadensis) that I found last year on Quaking Aspen. It overwintered and eclosed yesterday.

On a young birch tree I found some leaves that were pulled together. I pulled (as gently as possible) them apart, and here's what was inside. I can't tell if it's a hibernaculum, or if something was parasitized.
I brought it in and put in its own container just to see what it is if no one recognizes this image:
