Edna, just wondering, did you collect your seeds from your vines or buy them somewhere. Everywhere I've sen them for sale is like $5 for 4 or 5 seeds. If they are from your vine,do they set seed easily and do you have to pollinate to get them to set seed?

Kristy they will bloom the first year. The reason they are expensive is that it is hard to get a seed pod. I read somewhere that ants pollinate it. I do see ants on it, so I leave them alone. The seed pod is huge..about 8 inches and tough as nails. Each pod has about 20 seeds. The key is to overwinter it.. if you can. This way you have a jump on getting blossoms, thus seed pods... Edna

Edna I see them for $9 for 5 seeds fairly often. Mine took a couple years to bloom even wintering it over inside. My snail vine bloomed the first year. This was the first year that either set pods and none of the Corkscrew vine seeds were viable. I believe that both are pollinated by ants. My blooms were covered this year and no aphids were present. Here's some pics of both the Snail & Corkscrew vines. The purple one is a Snail vine, the pink and white is the Corkscrew vine. The foliage appears identical on both vines and the only way I can tell them apart is by the blooms.

If I remember correctly it blooms early summer. I keep mine going throughout the winter so it pretty much blooms year round.

Do they really smell as nice as they say? I bought some from Park's seeds once, paid what I felt was a lot for 5 seeds, which didn't germinate for me. I haven't tried them since, I would like to know if they germinate easily, don't know if I just got a bad batch, or if I did something wrong.

Well Thanks for the seeds Edna. I have mine soaking and plan on planting them today. They are plump and ready to go into the pots or ground.

It's going to be in the 70's here again today. Sorry for you folks that are still so cold. I just know you are ready to get your hands dirty and play outside.

I'm planning on planting mine on several arbors so it will cover them.....hopefully.

If anyone else has any other blooming vines they want to share with me I'd love to have some starts of different ones.

ngraham, did you chip & soak before planting? This is a good thing to do for seeds like this with a hard coat, I even do it to morning glories and moonvines because it really bumps up germination and alos germination is faster. Never had a mmonvine bloom tho, actually once I put them out they die. Gonna try one this year with better care, better growing place : )

Edna, I was soaking my seeds, to plant them last Saturday, I had put them in a jigger, to soak since they were so tiny. Saturday evening my husband came home unexpectantly and went in the back yard, and brought in the jigger, he said he found it on the picnic table, and said our son must have been in the back yard doing shots. He was so upset. I could have killed him. I hope next year you will share with me again. Why did he have to come home early. Barbra,
