You won't believe this, Miss Sherry!

Rmemeber when you sent me eggs from you over loaded Pipevine last Nov.? Well, the eggs hatched and 3 out of the 4 went into chrysalis and overwintered. TODAY, over 6 months later, one beauty emerged. I was so excited, I forgot to snap a picture. The chrysalis was a green one and had come loose from its "sling." I don't know how many times I had to pick it up and set it back in the artifical flowers where it had come loose from. I nearly threw it out several times when I cleaned the mesh container last fall.

Anyway, it was pretty small even for a Pipevine but beautiful. I THINK it was a male - pretty blue on the upper wings. Hope if it is it finds the female I saw last week. If not, then maybe one of the two remaining chrysalis will emerge soon. I think they are both Pipevine, maybe one of them is Spicebush. It has been so long ago.

That's amazing, Mary! I think part of the reason that overwintered chrysalids make small butterflies is the actual process of overwintering - somehow, I think staying in a chrysalis a long time reduces them.
That same thing happened to me with a BST one time - I think it overwintered for about 9 months!
Anyway, if it's a male and you saw a female, I hope they find each other. My Mama PVS laid more eggs today, some on the a. serpentaria and some on the a. clematitis as well as the a. tomentosa. This gal is big and real black, only a little blue on top. The whole time she lays eggs, one of the big, newly emerged males keep flirting with her, spraying her with his perfume, I guess.

Good deal! I have one plant of this in my yard. It hasn't grown much, but it has flowered for me every year. I think I need to move it where it can be seen. It gets hidden between a daylily and a geranium, but I put it there because those plants provide it shade. They don't crowd it out, they just provide it some relief from the afternoon sun. Karen

LOL!!! yeah, parrots are a wee bit noisier than 'keets. and mine are small parrots- not the ones who can REALLY make noise. they give so much back, though- they are like extra kids. funny, smart & silly, they keep life interesting (and aggravating sometimes). not to mention makng my ears ring. :) i'm 36, so i have seen some d.v.d. shows, but it was when i was small. never saw that episode. i'm thankful my jays mostly stay up in the pines and leave me and my songbirds be. they & the crows have scream fights up there sometimes. i've had corpulant cats before, and know how hard it is to get them to slim down. they simply aren't interested. the only way i ever found was to limit what they could eat- fed them once a day, as much as they were supposed to eat for the day, rather than a bowlful they could eat at will. when we moved here and they were allowed outside during the day, they slimmed down a lot just from the extra excercise. they've been gone a while now, and i miss them, but with allergies & asthsma, and now birds, we won't be getting more. tam

Great find! There is a thrift shop at the end of my alley that benefits the old folks home across the street. When items don't sell or have some damage they put them in the dumpster. Walking the dog 2-3 years ago I noticed a great looking chandelier in the box. Perfect for my dining room. Dad zoomed home to get the car as the baby was heavy (solid brass) and I stood guard with Dylan until he came back. Some guy comes out of his yard and was going to take it, but I let him know it was MINE! This guy dives in often and into the donation box also, then has a garage sale several time in the summer. My free chandelier cost me glass bulb covers and $500 for the electrician. And for kicks I checked an upscale lighting store. Same lamp was selling for $2500!
