Hi guys! I'm bumping this thread up, because I just realized that we have a June birthday - Talla. The kids will get a card out to her, but I'm afraid it will be a few days late. Wow, we have this swap wrapped up already! Way to go, GIRLS!! :o) Ya'll are awesome, as usual! Theresa~ Great box, I know you'll enjoy every bit of it! Sounds like it was good timing, too. Dottie~ "And bamboo is so ungrateful! Every time I helped one up, it slapped me in the face." ROFL!! Oh, goodness...I can't help it....I'm still wiping tears from my eyes. That is some "liberated" bamboo! *giggle* It reminds me of when my brother held a door open for a "liberated" woman! She slapped his face & told him she wasn't helpless. Good grief! I told him to not let it bother him, she probably just wasn't used to southern hospitality. That's how we raise 'em down here- you ALWAYS open doors for ladies (and even a few gents now & then, if you're first in line). Now he asks before he opens doors.."Uh, are you liberated or southern?" LOL! So I hope that DH replenished your wine supply for you. Sounds like you had quite the day & you certainly need some relaxation! Laura~ The bird watching sounds like a great activity for the family. We have TONS of birds here- chickadees, titmice, cardinals (hundreds of these!!), wrens, bluebirds (funny time of year for them!)...so we will definitely have much to report! :o) The weekend is almost here! Welcome, Kathy7450 & Lenvt -- You've found a lively, intelligent place for talking about books -- light / deep; funny / poignant; fiction / non-f. -- all kinds! +++++++++++++++++++++++ Have spent the past week reading (for the 2nd time in years) 2 of the James Herriot books. They're so warm to curl up with on long winter nights. Am also reading another book I read a long time ago -- "They Do It With Mirrors" - Agatha Christie. +++++++++++++++++++++++ Hi Veer - Yes, I finished "The Birthday Present" (Barbara Vine). It held me all the way through -- But it wasn't killer-diller great like some of her books. And I *did* notice (as you did) that the "voice" of the two different 1st-person characters narrating the story were similar - even tho' they were sooooo different -- gender; social level; marital status; economic level; etc., etc. ++++++++++++++++++++++ Sarah Canary -- Of all the Terry Pratchett books I've read, "Nightwatch" is my favourite. It's funny, dark, macabre, adventurous -- just a Delightful story! "Mansfield Park" is the 1st or 2nd book that I read by Jane Austen. It has what many people think of as an irritating main heroine. . . . But I liked her in spite of her "grizzling" -- crying or tearing up easily. I thought she had very good qualities -- conscientious about the rights and sensibilities of others; a sweet disposition; wasn't catty; thoroughly appreciated her good luck in life (where other girls might have resented living in a tiny room) and was very grateful to the family who'd taken her in. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Lemonhead101 -- That domesticity book sounds very cozy -- intrigues me! I've put it on my "To Be Bought List". +++++++++++++++++++++++++ TimA -- I read "Peyton Place" a long time after it came out (my mother wouldn't let me read it). Some years later, read it again. I liked it a lot. But for me, then, it was the mother who intrigued me, and her man friend...both such glamourous "grown-ups" w/ exciting lives, even tho' lived in a small town. And the town itself sounded so lovely! The daughter was drab, to me. Don't know what I'd think of "Peyton Place" if I read it now.

Annie I received your e-mail. Glad you received the prizes and valentine gift. Love all the fairy packages. Rita I received your box today and loved it all. The post office is so rough on packages the cute little fairy arrived broken along with the heart box. Rita you sent so much, two boxes of candy (Yum), valentine card, two precious bear valentine figurines, angel figurine, valentine pencil-pencil sharpener-eraser and note pad. Thank you so much. Sheri-Sorry to read your Birthday gift was missing from the card...I found some black sharpie retractable markers and included one for plant labeling. If I find them again I will send you another. Melinda did receive hers so that one was still intact. Here is the message I received from Melinda via facebook. Dear Shirley, Thank you so much for the beautiful card and new marker pen! So needed that! I am trying to get on the new GW and have tried for days! Don't know if it is my computer or what, but can't sign it, can't connect with FB or anything. I may have to make a new Yahoo account and everything to make a new sign in, not sure. But it is extremely frustrating! Could you please say Thank you to all the ladies

Thanks all! I will have a wonderful day! First let me tell you that Monday, my GD and I were taken to dinner at Benihana's for our birthday. She turned 16 yesterday and I 64 today! We always get carried away with presents, but I told my DD that this year I would prefer that in lieu of presents, to give to a Christian organization that helps the needy. I got a beautiful black and white jacket, gift card to my favorite nursery, but the best gift was that four hens were bought for a family! Since I love chickens this was so appropriate! I feel truly blessed. Yesterday, I went with a friend to see another friend who sings karaoke and we had lots of fun watching others sing, I got to dance and had two great margaritas, LOL! This evening I am being taken to Red Lobster for dinner. I am a firm believer that one should celebrate one's b.d. as many times as one can, LOL!

Jill, have had the Ultimate Feast several times in the past, but settled for a salmon fillet that came with a skewer of spicy shrimp with rice pilaf, baked potato, bread and Caesar salad, yummy!

Eloise...it's a garden inside the carlsberg brewery in Copenhagen Denmark.

I was there 2yrs ago, and couldn't help but take that pic. You always see the one of Michaelangelo's David, but never a female version. LOL

Sounds like you had a great time and it was really nice to be able to give the chickens to a family. We almost went out tonight but did too much in the greenhouse and got too pooped, lol. Haven't been dancing since we went to New Orleans. Margaritas sound real good. Party on girlfriend! Have a wonderful time.

Barbra, Kristy, Mary Jane and Lucy, thanks and I did have a great time and good (lots) food! The place we went to last night was boring so I left after 10 PM. We might try another new place next Saturday, but it's a bit further away. I told you I try to extend my birthday by celebrating as many times as I can, LOL!!!
