EXCITED - rare atala butterfly

the other day i ended up on the florida native plant section of my water company's web site. i used their interactive tool to get some ideas on how to improve my 'natural' landscaping and wow! what a surprise. i was reading about the coontie plant. my house had bunches of them planted when i bought it. the info on the coontie mentioned that it is the only larval host plant for the rare atala butterlfy.

just a couple of days prior, i'd noticed a little black butterfly flitting around the coontie. darned if that isn't the atala - surviving nicely in my backyard.

now i'm trying to get the little beauties to keep still enough to capture with my camera
